Knitting or crochet

I'm wanting to learn a new skill that will allow me to create things but also keep my hands and mind occupied ( I'm trying g to lose weight and am a classic comfort/boredom eater).

Which is better - knitting or crochet?

I quite like the idea that knitting can result in cute jumpers etc for DC, but the basics of crochet seem easier to pick up and there seems to be loads of people making cute non-clothing things out of it. It also seems a bit less old-ladyish (prepared to be flamed for that)

@FishingPaws - thank you!

I've knitted for years and recently took up crochet. My problem is that my hands cramp up and start to hurt quickly if I'm going the same thing over and over so I have a lot of unfinished projects, as I'm not going to cause myself pain by trying to continue. Sad

I’m quite good at knitting but have no clue when it comes to crochet I’ve tried and am useless

Crochet I can do in the car (I don't drive) but I wouldn't knit in the car as it would drive DH up the wall with the needles clicking. Grin

Try both. I'm a crap knitter and I'm envious of anyone who can do it without messing it up.

I am however a fairly good crocheter. I seem to get it in a way I dont get knitting. I've made blankets, hats, scarves, shawls, ponchos but the only thing that eludes me is amigurumi sadly
