Is it possible to get a second hand Peloton?

I have looked on Gumtree and marketplace etc and there are none.

Then I thought maybe they don’t allow second hand sales or something? Do they take the bikes back?

I feel like it might be a good option for me to exercise at home although all good intentions etc and then it lies there unused so I didn’t want to spend too much on it.

I’m aware they do returns within 30 days but was just wondering about second hand first.

There’s a Facebook selling page for them you could check but with lockdown demand for new and used ones has been pretty huge so suspect there might not be many around (in fact I’ve just checked the page and it’s full of wanted rather than for sale posts at the moment I’m afraid).

I considered getting a used one when I got mine but they were only about £300 less and with that obviously you take the risk that there’s something wrong with it, plus you have to find a way to transport it yourself (they are very heavy!), you also don’t get the 30 day free trial or any of the deals you can usually get from peloton to include the shoes so you’d need to factor in buying those separately unless you already have cycling shoes with cleats.

Ok thanks I think that’s what i kind of thought that it would be as well getting a new one if I’m getting one at all. Although I suppose it’s reassuring that if I wanted to sell it after the 30 days there is a demand for them!

Do you use yours? I am a complete novice and swinging between this and treadmill. I would be confident using a treadmill but the peloton community side of things appeals to me in terms of motivation and challenges,

Hi OP

You might be better getting a spin bike and signing up to Les Mills on Demand. This is what I have. Much cheaper than Peloton and lots of other different classes on there too. There is also a really active Facebook group for the community side of things.

I also have a treadmill but prefer the bike, much easier on my not so young anymore knees Smile

We got a new one delivered Tuesday and it's amazing compared to even the spin bikes you get at gyms. I'm a PT and have used so many different types of bikes too.

The teaching and graphics are amazing and the metrics really spur you on, the instructors are so enthusiastic and drive you to achieve your beat, the yoga and strength classes on the App are also far superior IMO to Les Mills, which I used for years.

Oh the music is better than LM too. Really up to date tracks.

DH just said it's one of the best purchases we've ever made,

There are plenty of people who buy a cheaper spin bike and just sign up to the peloton app to get classes (they don’t just do spin classes, there’s indoor and outdoor running, strength, cardio, boot camp, yoga etc) but for me I find the advantage of having the bike with all the integrated metrics and tracking is worth it- there’s a huge community of women in the uk who plan group rides and challenges etc which is great fun. It’s also great that you can search the thousands of on demand classes to find the music you like; for me the right music makes a huge difference to how hard I work and there is something there to suit all music tastes.

If you do decide to go ahead feel free to Dm me and I can send you my referral code if you want it which gets you a voucher to use on free accessories (including the shoes) 🙂

Just to add I do some kind of class every day- although usually once a week it will be something low impact like yoga to give my body a bit of a break. I have zero regrets in getting it.

Has it helped you to lose weight or were you already fit?

I am feeling old and unfit and yes I could just go for a run for free but getting out of the house with DH working and two young DC means going out after 8pm when it seems such an effort, I feel if it’s in the house I will be more motivated.

My gym membership was around £50 p m anyway and has obviously been suspended for now until who knows when so I’m less that monthly commitment for exercise and now seems like the time to do it if I’m going to get a peloton

I used to be fit about 5 years ago but was very unfit and a stone or 2 overweight when I got the bike- there’s been a huge improvement in my fitness in just a couple of months (I redid my first ride the other day and my total output has gone up by over 50%) and while I haven’t lost much weight yet (eating and drinking far too much in lockdown!) my clothes do feel a bit looser already. The face it’s at home makes it so much easier to fit exercise in - there are classes of all lengths from 5 minutes right up to 90 minutes so no matter how much time you have you can fit a class in.

Great, thanks for the info... I’m really tempted now.

Not sure I’ll be able to sneak this one past DH though so will need to discuss it with him too!
