Tracking a child’s mobile phone

Gatesofhelen100 · 16/05/2020 21:14

Hi - Can anyone recommend a good free app that can check the whereabouts of a child’s mobile phone when they’re out and about (obviously this will be for future use due to the current situation)? Many thanks.

Life 360 is good.

We use Life360 (got it mainly so that son could see I was on my way and not try to call me when I was driving...)

It doesn't always update though, especially when child is in a Faraday cage like a bus or a modern school building Grin

merryhouse · 16/05/2020 21:51

Fortunately my son just rolls his eyes good-naturedly when he gets a text saying "can you check in, you're not showing up since you left the park four hours ago"

Spr1ngStitches · 16/05/2020 22:27

We just use Findmy on my IPhone .

I forgot to say he has a Samsung Galaxy.

Life 360 - it does rely on internet access though

Gatesofhelen100 · 16/05/2020 22:49

Hi - will Life 360:work for a Samsung Galaxy? Also is it a free app?

Many thanks.

We share locations with each other on Google maps

titchy · 16/05/2020 22:56

Having location services on drains battery don't forget. I'm sure you wouldn't want him with no charge left.

bibberdybobberdyboo · 16/05/2020 22:59

Life 360. Though it is currently disabled at the moment seen as my teens haven't left the house in weeks!

Hazelnutlatteplease · 16/05/2020 23:03

Don't do it it's massively short-sighted.

If he wants to go somewhere he doesn't want you to know about he will simply leave the phone somewhere innocent.

Then he is somewhere dodgy without the easiest method of getting out or help.

evieray · 27/05/2020 14:40

I googled some services because considering current situation it would be reassuring to know that kid is safe and just to know where they are.
I know about family link and also i found this website with parental control tool www.mspy.com/parental-control.html, seems to be relevant.

IHateCoronavirus · 27/05/2020 14:42

As a family we use life 360. It is good.

Speak for your own kids! Mine is 11 so he has find my friends enabled for both of our reassurance. He has no interest in going anywhere he shouldn't be without an adult. Notice the OP didn't say how old her child is!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/05/2020 14:49

We all use Google location sharing (+ family link on kids phone).

happinessischocolate · 27/05/2020 15:04

We use findfriends app it's perfect for knowing where the kids are especially when they want picking up, it saves listening to a lengthy rubbish explanation 😂

MrsAvocet · 27/05/2020 15:13

We use Life360 too but to be honest I haven't found it that useful. Predominantly I want to be able to track family members who have gone out on solo bike rides, but there are quite a few places around us that don't have good mobile coverage and once it has lost track of someone it doesn't always pick them up again once they are back in an area with signal. There have been several occasions when I have been about to send out a search party, convinced that someone must be dead in a ditch as according to the app they haven't moved for 40 minutes, only to see them appear at the end of the road. But some days it works perfectly. It is probably more reliable in urban areas. I'm thinking of getting rid of it actually as I sometimes think it causes me more anxiety than it relieves.

kitchensinkdrama · 31/07/2020 12:45

Hello,
Please may I ask for some advice? My 13 year old has recently been given a new bike and is enjoying the freedom it gives. I worry about her though and want to be able to see where she is when she doesn't pick up the phone. I've got an iPhone, she has a Samsung galaxy. Would anyone know of an app (free or cheap!) that I could use to monitor her movements without being too intrusive?
Thanks in advance.
