Has anyone tried a good one of these?!
Myself and two friends used to meet up regularly and we've done a few of these in our time - of course we are now video calling only and there's only so much quizzing you can do! I mean it's great but we are ready for a change.
How do they work though? I'm like a cavewoman when it come to technology. Can we all see the same thing and chat to one another while trying to solve the puzzles? Will we need more than one device each? Don't worry I know I sound clueless.
I imagine that you pay for the game and receive a code to enter?
Thanks

I just got an email today from an escape room doing an online game

Its £15 and we haven’t tried it yet but the escape room itself is good and id certainly recommend it

I’ll cut and paste the email...hold on

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/05/2020 20:32

Step 1: Purchase a game license key using the ‘Add to Cart’ button.
£15 covers a whole team of players of up to 6 people (2-4 is the optimum number). Note: You will need to play on a computer, the game is not designed to work on a phone or tablet.

Step 2: Assemble your team via your favourite communication platform. Zoom, Skype, telephone or whatever you’d prefer.

Step 3: Visit the link in your confirmation email and enter your license key (each player will need to do this). Note: Once activated this will last for 24 hours.

Step 4: Follow the on screen instructions to setup your private game.

Step 5: Enjoy!

@RufustheLanglovingreindeer really helpful thank you for taking the time to post that!
Sounds like it could be a very entertaining night in! 😁

Thanks for that RufustheLanglovingreindeer.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/05/2020 21:16

No worries at all

Its ds2 birthday this month and we usually do an escape room, he is old enough and happy enough to delay doing one until they reopen but i was very chuffed when it popped into my inbox 😀

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/05/2020 21:17

Oh and Salisbury escape room was/is run by ex police officers

So pretty cool

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2020 21:20

We’ve done one and just booked a second - we didn’t find it too difficult and did it with our 10 year old who LOVED it so it was good for us.

We did Hunt for the Clueminati and they have just released a second one.

We’ve booked a second one with someone different - clue adventures.

Will look at the one posted above too!

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2020 21:22

Actually looking that one above IS the second we’ve booked! Planning on doing it tomorrow.

Wtfdidwedo · 16/05/2020 21:23

I'm slightly confused by this. Isn't an online escape room just a computer game...? There are already many games on many different platforms of varying degrees of difficulty which involve having to escape a room or a level or a game. £15 seems pretty steep. I've never been interested in real life escape rooms mind you so I may be the wrong person to pass comment!

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2020 21:24

cluehq.co.uk/thehunt/

We’ve done the first one here.

tabulahrasa · 16/05/2020 21:27

But... that was a genre of computer game decades before real ones?...

I mean, are you not just playing one of them?...

We recently did “Dear Emily” from www.thepanicroomonline .

We really enjoyed it. We played with our DD so we Skyped her on the laptop and signed into the escape room on our iPads.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2020 23:13

@couldbeouting would it be ok for a 10 year old? As in content? Some of them are quite dark!

I’ve also heard good things about the Harry Potter one.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/05/2020 23:57

Going to watch with interest

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/05/2020 23:59

Can you report back poirot

And weirdly...just reading this

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/05/2020 10:23

I obviously LOVE Agatha christie books!

Will report back later. If anyone is vaguely competitive our time in the one we did posted above was 58 minutes!

FizzyPink · 17/05/2020 10:33

We did one last week, will try to find out what it was called. It was really hard and a group of adults had to use most of the provided clues and there’s no way you could have worked it out.
It didn’t work well as it didn’t update as members of the team worked out the answer and we may as well have done it separately in our own households. It wasn’t a particularly fun way to spend a Saturday night if I’m honest

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 17/05/2020 10:53

Competitive? Moi?

ITS ON!!!!

(I am rereading my Agatha christIe collection at the moment...new book then AC book etc)

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 17/05/2020 10:55

Oh thats a shame turn

We’ve found that when we’ve done physical escape rooms that we aren’t good with words Grin

Numbers and science stuff we are pretty good ...but words? Nup

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 17/05/2020 13:13
  • @couldbeouting would it be ok for a 10 year old? As in content? Some of them are quite dark!*

Content would be fine but it might be a bit boring for a 10 year old. It’s based on a series of old fashioned love letters.

That company does do at least one specifically aimed at families with children of that sort of age though.....

Reporting back as promised. The one we did today (the one that Rufus linked to) was Ok - we got out in just under 52 minutes. It was more a series of puzzles to work through rather than lots of things all over the place in a true escape game style I would say. We didn't use any clues, although we nearly did at the very beginning - the first puzzle took us the longest to work out what to do.

The functionality wasn't as good as the other room we did - it didn't work on any of our ipads and only worked on laptops. Also when one person clicked, it clicked it for everyone so you all saw the same thing at the same time. It did suggest taking screen shots/photos to help which we did.

The first one we did (that I linked to above) was better I think. There was more going one at one time and different people could work on different things and your screens were all different. You got a notification if someone solved a puzzle or unlocked anything.

I did enjoy it, but definitely feel we got more for our money out of first one. DD is 10 though and she has fully enjoyed both of them, so I think doing it as a family they are both good and maybe the second one would be a good intro for families with children who like this sort of thing!

I look forward to seeing your times fellow escape-roomers (but I am putting the caveat here we slowed down to let the 10yo 'solve' things hahahaha).

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 17/05/2020 18:58

Thats great, thanks MrsP
