Where have all the teenagers gone?

Aridane · 16/05/2020 16:54

Since lockdown, I have been out daily for exercise (and food shopping), taking different routes for variety.

And during this time, I have not spotted a single teenager.

Where have they all gone?!? It’s like a plague has wiped them out.

Pre lockdown - even in school holidays - there were plenty of teenagers around (you couldn’t miss them).

Are they now indoors, online? (I know my nephew was).

Is this dearth of teenagers unique to my area (south east London)?

Other age groups are reasonably well represented

They’re still very much out and about in NW London. Out and about far too much and far too noisily, riding around on bikes like maniacs.

Roseburn · 16/05/2020 16:55

Mine are now nocturnal.

Roseburn · 16/05/2020 16:56

Only come out at night, and that's just to raid the fridge.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 16/05/2020 16:56

Take a second to think about it OP.

Maybe 10 seconds.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 16/05/2020 16:57

If my 14 year old is anything to go by, they're in bed til midday, doing schoolwork in the afternoon, in the garage tinkering with woodwork in the evening and watching questionable tv shows til late at night.

I force him to come out running with me a few times each week - if I didn't I think he'd happily never leave the house despite doing sports every day of the week during normal times.

Thisismytimetoshine · 16/05/2020 16:57

What a very strange post.

Aridane · 16/05/2020 17:00

@plunkplunkfizz - we have a lot of primary school age children wobbling on their bikes or peddling furiously

My teenager has become nocturnal too.

I'm feeding him vitamin d now.

TheCanterburyWhales · 16/05/2020 17:03

I'm in Italy and ours are just coming out of a zoom-induced hibernation. Grin They've been allowed out since 4/5 so there are now plenty of them around again.

darkforceofexcesszeal · 16/05/2020 17:05

Nocturnal. Mine aren’t out of bed until anywhere between noon and 3pm. They raid the fridge and return to their lairs. They don’t socialize until dinner (and I bully one of them into cooking it).
Although last night when I went to bed I could hear ds howling with laughter and shouting and screaming with his mates on whatever gaming platform they were using (magic or D&D probably). And periodically in the afternoons/ evening I can hear the burble and occasional excited shouting and laughing from the girls on zoom.
Probably in six weeks two have left the house four times (hike/ cycle/ walk into town to collect essential Pringle’s, gummies, and nibbles for online game night). The other one, to my knowledge, hasn’t been out.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/05/2020 17:06

Gaming and eating on average 20hrs a day

Roseburn · 16/05/2020 17:06

Thighmaggeddon I actually barely see mine now. I hear them crashing around about 4 am so I'm sure they are still here. I keep banging on about Vitamin D too.

SharpieInThe · 16/05/2020 17:06

Mine is home, preparing for next year's learning, planning stuff with his mates for when this is over, binge watching netflix and trying to bankrupt me via our food bill.

Also giving vitamin D.

Omeoffta · 16/05/2020 17:08

Mine's barely left his bedroom. Ditto the Vit D conversations!

Thighmageddon · 16/05/2020 17:09

@Roseburn Yep I've been woken up at 4am, I send texts saying shut up Grin

I do rarely see him but when he slopes down for supplies I insist he takes a vitamin d tablet. Usually by this time of year he'd have the starts of being super tanned due to being outside all the time!

iklboo · 16/05/2020 17:09

In hibernation - which for us mainly consists of vimto, Jaffa cakes and wotsits. He occasionally emerges from his room to bring down plates & cups where the mould has evolved into a democratic society. And for food, of course.

Thighmageddon · 16/05/2020 17:10

Eugh, I've caught the 'super' disease, off to wash my mouth out and whip myself...

HalfOfWhoIUsedToBe · 16/05/2020 17:11

Mine are now nocturnal

🤣 Mine too. One goes for a run in the evening sometimes and then they’re gaming overnight. The life they always dreamed of. 🤣

Biscuitbiscuits · 16/05/2020 17:12

The weed smoking moped teens who congregate in the play park by my house are starting to re-emerge a couple at a time. I wonder if they're doing safe distance dealing.

didmyhousethismornin · 16/05/2020 17:13

All the teenagers I know are nocturnal now Grin

Pipandmum · 16/05/2020 17:13

My daughter is at her desk during the week for school from 8.30-4.
We've just come back today from the garden centre but other than walking the dogs she doesn't go out. My son walks the dogs with his girlfriend and since Wednesday has gone on his bike to meet up with a different friend each day. I see teenagers out but normally with a dog, on a bike or with parents. Maybe they are all just following the rules.

DirtyTicket · 16/05/2020 17:16

They're all congregating on bikes in the woods blocking the footpath if my daily dog walks are anything to go by. Very fond of riding in gangs on the pavements too.

parkhillloser · 16/05/2020 17:16

Mine roll out of bed around 8.30 and launch an expedition to the fridge, via the cupboards and then work until about 3pm ish other than asking when I am going to the supermarket.
The rest of the day is spent on playstations socialising with mates and playing games unless they are eating.
At some point they go in the garden to do their workout and compete to be the one to do the plank for the longest. DS1 wins even though DS2 tickles his toes. DS2 has informed me that he's going to be ready to water the garden when DS1 does the plank this afternoon. After that they eat.

ClassicCola · 16/05/2020 17:16

They are all living their nocturnal best lives.

Aridane · 16/05/2020 17:17

@Pipandum - from what I see, people are following the rules local to me. There are loads of people - compared with before - out and about exercising (walking, cycling, out of breath jogging) - just no teenagers engaged in that activity
