Have you had contact from school re yr 10 and yr 12 going back - what have they said?

Our school has suggested small numbers of pupils at a time go back into the school for what seems to be 1-1 pastoral / tutorial sessions. This may be the first stage before small group teaching starts - but they are definitely just having very small numbers of pupils in at a time in the school.

Just wondering what other schools are doing to see if our school is just being very cautious or is typical of secondary schools.

My DD is in Y12. We have heard nothing from school. My daughter really needs more guidance from teachers. They don't provide much teaching online.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 16/05/2020 18:05

One school, I've not heard from, the other said it would be 15 kids per room, they'd stay in same room, no breaks/socialising, 2 hr chunks. Then we had to fill out a survey if we'd prefer to carry on home working or them going in for alternate weeks or alternate days.
They also said not all subjects would be covered so it hardly seems worth the risk either to teachers or students, or indeed the cleaners.

earlydoors42 · 16/05/2020 18:31

My daughter is year 10. They suggested 1 day a week. In a small group, stay in same seat in same room all day. Limited people at lunch. We had to reply with yes or no - no space for comments - I have said no.

I'd hope they get some exercise between lessons. Sitting still all morning sounds awful

We had an email saying they're still talking to the LEA and the unions and will email again next week!

flabbyflabbyflabguts · 16/05/2020 20:41

Not heard anything. School are being vague, because possibly there are no finalised details

PorpentiaScamander · 16/05/2020 20:45

Weve had a survey.
Will you send your yr 10 child in? Yes. No. Unsure
Will they require food from the school canteen. Yes. No. Unsure
Will you send your yr 7-9 children in when we open. Yes. No. Unsure.

I said unsure (despite my mum telling me he has to go back) because if there won't be any actual teaching going on then frankly its not worth the risk, or bus fare! (2 buses each way)

ineedaholidaynow · 16/05/2020 20:56

We've not heard anything yet, but HOY is contacting parents next week.

I don't know whether Secondary Schools have had the official guidance from the Government yet. They hadn't last time I checked.

iMatter · 16/05/2020 20:57

Not heard a thing

antipodalpizza · 16/05/2020 21:38

We've been told that they are unlikely to be going back any time soon whether they are year 7 or 11 or anything in between.

Babyroobs · 16/05/2020 21:40

I have a dd in year 10 and a ds in year 12 and not heard anything from either school or college.

OxanaVorontsova · 21/05/2020 22:19

Ours (y10) back potentially from 8 June for occasional days, in small groups with teachers for support rather than teaching a timetable, to reduce risk of contact with too many people.

Tiramisuiloveyou · 21/05/2020 22:24

Yr 12 going back 2 hours a day 4 days a week from 8th July.

Y10’s doing similar the week after.

Will be taught in large spaces, school putting in additional washing facilities, social distancing and probably wont be taught be own teachers but subject specialists.

DippyAvocado · 21/05/2020 22:24

The government guidance for Year 10 and 12 isn't released until 28th May. If it's anything like the primary guidance it will change daily after that so I wouldn't take any information given at the moment too seriously.

OldLace · 21/05/2020 22:29

No word from my Y10 school (1 phone call in entire time, he is SN/SEN)
Survey from Y6 school - do we want to send her in?
We have a 40m round trip by public bus, so: NO

taptonaria27 · 21/05/2020 22:30

We've had an email today. Y10 and y12 invited to meet form tutor for 30m in mid June and they will formulate their ongoing policy from that feedback.
In the meantime, home learning to become more interactive with more work sent in and some online/ video / narrated powerpoints (none of which have been provided yet)

I think by seeing tutor they're tick the box of "time in front of teachers" and won't have them back onto school before September

AnnaNimmity · 21/05/2020 22:31

I have dds in year 10 and 12 and we haven't heard anything officially . The girls' teachers have told them they expect them to be back for some time before the end of the term.

happytobeheresparkl · 21/05/2020 22:34

Not heard a thing awaiting anxiously ..

Chasingsquirrels · 21/05/2020 22:37

We had an email today, this extract addresses their current thoughts on this area.
It's a sixth form college, so yr12 are half of the total student population which doesn't leave much room for social distancing.
Their online provision has been excellent.

"One of the key areas we asked for feedback on was in relation to the government guidance on face to face time with teachers for Y12 before the end of the academic year. The logistics of a socially distanced return to site are huge for all schools and, for a college as big as ours, with a single year group of 1250 students, the obstacles are magnified. We have outlined some of the challenges to students and made clear that any return to site in June/July would necessarily be a significantly compromised experience compared to what they have been used to, but nonetheless we would like to hear what matters to them most. Face to face time next half term will be necessarily limited in scope as we work through social distancing requirements and site safety and model possibilities for September. With over three quarters of our students relying on public transport to journey in, we are very clear on the risks both within and beyond college and our responsibility to you, our wider community."

allfalldown47 · 21/05/2020 22:40

We had a form to fill in for my year 10 ds, basically yes or no to if we planned to send them back in June and then space to explain why.
I've said no, purely because of the school bus, I honestly don't see how that can operate safely?

bestbefore · 21/05/2020 22:43

@Chasingsquirrels gosh - I think we were on the same MN post natal thread for our year 12s MANY MANY years ago...it went on for a bit and I probably didn't post much but I'm sure I remember your username!! Was that you?

Chasingsquirrels · 21/05/2020 22:46

bestbefore I'm pretty sure I didn't use the MN post natal threads, I probably joined in 2004 and was ChasingRabbits for a short while.
I did use the BabyCentre Oct 2002 board.

bestbefore · 21/05/2020 22:54

@Chasingsquirrels BlushGrinhaha ok no worries! Must have remembered your name for something else

Tinty · 21/05/2020 23:06

I had an email today, Year 10 Dd going back for one day a week in groups of 8, from 8th June.

LaureBerthaud · 22/05/2020 01:20

@Chasingsquirrels - you say the online provision has been excellent, may I ask in what way? Have they done any live lessons?
