Busy mums! What hobbies do you have?

I feel like I've lost myself in motherhood for 4 years and completely forgotten about me. I would like to reinvent myself and pick up some new interests.

Besides Mumsnet, what hobbies do you do around family life?

I cannot recommend running enough.

Something I assumed for years was for Fit people only / people who could already run / people who actually liked cross country at school.

It’s not at all. It’s for anyone. And anyone can do it (ok a few exceptions)

If you have Facebook join a group Called run mummy run or run bitch run.
Very motivating and also very funny.

GeriGeranium · 15/05/2020 18:32

What did you like before?

Changingmyname1234 · 15/05/2020 18:32

Running - weekends/evenings when dh is about to watch dc
Yoga, pilates, (online classes for now in the evenings but could try with dc about)
Reading novels - when I wake up, before I go to sleep and snatched 10 mins here and there.
Since lockdown I've also started a bit of gardening (while the kids play in the garden)
Mindful colouring when watching tv and drinking wine
Knitting a scarf
Listening to podcasts especially during my commute to work.
Learning/refreshing my French

I'd love to write but can't concentrate with kids about and too tired at night.

What do you enjoy?

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 15/05/2020 18:34

I play tennis every day, if I can

Really missed it in lockdown.

managedmis · 15/05/2020 18:35

Biking
Staring into space
Drinking wine

mangoinafrillydress · 15/05/2020 18:35

I may try running. Maybe my 4 year old can tag along on her scooter.

I do patchwork and mosaics, as well as running. They're great because I can pick them up and put them down as and when I've got time or am in the mood, and there's no time constraint. I can do as much or as little as I feel like and it doesn't make a blind bit of difference!

mangoinafrillydress · 15/05/2020 18:37

I used to paint and sketch, learn French and do weight training. Given them all up and lost interest in art tbh.

Cricket, I’m in a women’s team and we’re all mums and young adults wanting to have fun. You can google women’s clubs near you and just go and join. They’re usually very welcoming.

I don’t have time for anything else. I tweet a lot.

LaneBoy · 15/05/2020 18:49

Swimming, yoga and gym (not atm obviously although I do find exercise gives me a little me time still so I do a brief workout when I can)

Art - I have a couple of random drawing projects at the moment but otherwise I use prompt lists like Inktober

Littleshortcake · 15/05/2020 18:53

Upcycling furniture

devildeepbluesea · 15/05/2020 18:57

Lots of exercise - running, I have Les Mills online and also teach some classes (via zoom currently).
Lockdown has made me realise how beautiful the countryside around me is, and I now take long walks when DD is with her dad.
I also make bead-woven jewellery and have done for years. Pic included of recent project!
I have just received one of those diamon art packs but not started it yet.
I also love colouring whilst watching TV, listening to comedy on BBC Sounds and playing online Scrabble.

devildeepbluesea · 15/05/2020 18:57

Forgot pic.

Busy mums! What hobbies do you have?
YouJustDoYou · 15/05/2020 19:03

Metaldetecting, crochet, reading.

AnnaNimmity · 15/05/2020 19:10

Running, cycling and yoga are the main things I do - I fit those in around work and the children and because I have older children at home, I can leave the kids to do these things (although generally do them first thing before the children are out of bed).

I also love going to galleries and I take my children to those with me.

Other than that, travel is high on my agenda.

iknowwhatyoudid · 15/05/2020 19:15

I play football twice a week and go running 2 times a week. Fit it all around when my partner is around with the DC. Have really missed playing football recently, so have increased my running frequency to 3-4 times.

Redskylark · 15/05/2020 20:43

Running, crochet, baking, embroidery, cooking and gardening

mothtoaflame · 15/05/2020 20:50

I love my peloton bike and there is a great Facebook group so you can ride together. Massively improved fitness and it fits in around kids as you can have a decent workout in 30 mins without leaving the house.

Reelycool · 15/05/2020 21:58

Cooking- needs done anyway and something nice at the end of it.

ShirazSavedMySanity · 15/05/2020 23:00

I learnt to crochet. It forced me to sit down and I felt productive as I have achieved something at the end of sitting down

Although the amount of blankets we now have is ridiculous

DefConOne · 16/05/2020 01:46

I do a dance fitness class twice a a week. I sing in a chorus. Anything music related works for me. I have started running during lockdown and find it’s not as horrible as it used to be. Decent rock or dance music and off I go.

BanKittenHeels · 16/05/2020 01:51

Prepping
Running
Yoga
Swimming
Knitting
Embroidery
Crochet
Rag rugging
Foraging
Netball
Coding
DIY
Vintage car repair

BanKittenHeels · 16/05/2020 01:52

Not all at the same time!
They come and go in waves. I hadn’t done any embroidery for quite sometime until the lockdown. And I can only be bothered to do mechanics if it is warm and I can have the campervan out on the drive.

mangoinafrillydress · 16/05/2020 06:46

Nice suggestions. Definitely need to get some active hobbies in.

Love that woven bead ring devil

Making my own clothes, running, yoga, swimming (I miss this so much). In lockdown I'm also doing embroidery and gardening.
