I know this is a bit like asking 'how long is a piece of string?' And that no two people are the same.

I also know that if someone came on here asking for gift suggestions for a 45 year old woman, the likelihood of anyone hitting on something I'd actually really like are slim!

I'm just hoping for inspiration really...

I've been seeing him a for a few months. More than six, fewer than a year. He'll be 55.

Hit me with your best ideas. Thank you!

What does he like ? Any clues ?

How about an order from Halfwine ? Half bottles of wines for all different tastes .

BirthdaySurprise · 15/05/2020 17:29

Ooh that's a good idea.

He likes sci- fi mainly. He's a bit of a geek. I dont want to say too much, if anyone read it knew him, it would be very obvious!!

I just thought if others had ideas I could see if anything inspired me!

I thought about getting him a working Star Trek communicator...

If DP is anything to go by, the following would go down well :

Whisky
Wine
Hamper of goodies, eg British cheeses, pates, good chocolates etc.

Or, for after lockdown :
Football / Cricket / F1 tickets.
Dinner at nice restaurant.

Not sure if this would be his taste but a deli local to me are offering tailored cheese boxes with chutneys etc delivered. Am thinking of getting one for my DH who will be 53 in a few weeks.

BirthdaySurprise · 15/05/2020 17:46

Great ideas thanks. He'd definitely like the cheese, pate, chutney idea. I'm just not sure if that says 'gift from wife' rather than 'gift from gf of a few months'. Not that theres anything wrong with 'gift from wife'!

I'm just so rubbish at this!

Although, tbh, given lockdown and not being able to go out, maybe something nice to eat at home would be just the thing!

I agree with the cheese. I buy cheese from The Cheese Shed (www.thecheeseshed.com) for people in the hope that one day someone will buy something similar for me! They have lovely gift ideas.

If he’s a sci-fi fan, a box set of one of his favourite series might go down well

FortunesFavour · 15/05/2020 17:52

Ooh is he a trekkie? Does he have any other memorabilia like that? Communicator could be a winner.

Ricekrispie22 · 15/05/2020 17:52

Swell water bottle
Magazine subscription
Wallet

FortunesFavour · 15/05/2020 17:54

Inflatable dalek fun if he likes that kind of thing.

Think I’m fixating too much on your geek comment (as a fellow geek!). I’ll shut up now Grin

clpsmum · 15/05/2020 17:56

The book of everyone is fab. I've given it many times and people love it

He is! I'm not sure he's into memorabilia as such but I thought something like that would be quite nice. I used to have a communicator badge that someone gave me and I loved it! I was about 17 at the time but I'd still like one now!

Not sure about an inflatable Dakek though! Grin

IRS a long time since I had a boyfriend to buy a birthday present for tbh and gift buying isnt really my strongest point.

Some great ideas here though. Thanks.

You can get bluetooth communicator badges now that actually work, I understand. That would be very cool...

Small hamper with a nice beer, piece of cheese, chutney, crackers, biscuits? Wouldn’t cost much and thoughtful as you could pick what he likes.

Personalised travel mug? I know that might not be much use now..

Iamamadeupname · 15/05/2020 18:10

What about a steak stone?

AdaColeman · 15/05/2020 18:14

If you will be seeing him early on the day, champagne & smoked salmon for breakfast.

Picnic hamper.
and on the same theme...
Panama hat for the blazing summer we are going to have!

Visit to a planetarium (in the future)

BirthdaySurprise · 15/05/2020 18:16

Ha I think he'd love all of these suggestions!

dany174 · 15/05/2020 18:18

If he is a reader maybe a nice copy of the Dune books? Classic SciFi and the new tv show is coming out soon. Or a subscription to audible.

converseandjeans · 15/05/2020 18:21
  • hamper of beers or wine
  • book
  • order in nice takeaway
  • get nice cake made up for him
AdaColeman · 15/05/2020 18:22

Sadly, you've just missed (by only a few days) the sale of a 30 lb moon meteorite at Christies!

Leah2005 · 15/05/2020 18:27

Can you get any star trek Lego? My DH would love a Lego millennium falcon and he only a bit of a nerd.

BirthdaySurprise · 15/05/2020 19:26

There are 18+ Star Wars lego sets. But I'm not sure he'd be into lego. I might have to sound him out about that!

I think he'd probably have married me for that! 😆

How much did it go for..?
