There is a sign in Tesco saying Soap Dispenser Pumps are in short supply

Buying liquid handsoap for the kids to use when washing their hands. There was a sign with the soap saying the dispenser pumps were in short supply, and requesting we save ours.
What do I do with a soap dispenser pump once I have one in the next few days?? All the bottles of soap had their own pump as the lid, and I'm guessing they wont want us to post them back. Any clues??

Or is this going to be like the CIF adverts where they say you can reuse the old bottle, but the concentrated stuff to top them up never gets this far north???

presumably just keep the bottle and decant the new bottle of liquid soap into it since they will be supplied without the pump dispenser.

Or use normal bar soap which is far better for the planet anyway.

ExclamationPerfume · 14/05/2020 17:46

All the Carex handwashes here just have the screw cap not the pump. I think they were made in a hurry when there was a short supply.

MossWalk · 14/05/2020 17:49

You can buy Carex refills in plastic pouches.

Bought refills in Sainsbury's yday. Keep the original pump bottle and top up.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 14/05/2020 17:53

Just use bar soap, it's better for the planet and much more cost effective.

totallyyesno · 14/05/2020 17:54

It is such a waste to throw away the pumps. You should always buy refills or better still bar soap.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 14/05/2020 17:57

It was in the news that some companies were going to start selling liquid soap with a screw cap because of. Lack of pumps so I assume you're supposed to wash your empty and pour the contents of the new bottle inside.

MinorArcana · 14/05/2020 18:00

I’d guess that if there’s a shortage of the dispenser pumps, they’ll just have the refill bottles available in the shops.
Or bar soaps.

chickedeee · 14/05/2020 18:00

We have been refilling our handsoap pump with shower gel- got rid of all our unwanted xmas smellies 😂

lunar1 · 14/05/2020 18:01

We have a big bottle of soap from Costco that we decant from.

KittenVsBox · 14/05/2020 18:06

So, just hold onto it for now? It's only the kids on liquid soap. Bar soap everywhere else.

Where are refills sold?? I've never seen them.

They are not asking you to keep it for them, they are asking you to keep it for you so you can reuse it.

MrsJoshNavidi · 14/05/2020 18:14

Buy soap. It's cheaper and far more ecologically friendly.

AldiAisleOfCrap · 14/05/2020 18:16

Just refill with supermarkets own shower gel, or even cheaper bubble bath.

domesticslattern · 14/05/2020 18:19

Yes, just hang onto your pump in case in future you need to decant other liquid soap into that container.
ps. We tried bar soap for the first time recently and weirdly the kids prefer it. More satisfying lather I think.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 14/05/2020 18:19

I’m actually shocked at the amount of people who keep buying new soap dispensers. You can buy a big bottle of cheap but still decent quality bath/shower soap and refill the bottle. It’s at least half the price. Personally I love the big bottles of Tesco white bath soap that smells gorgeous and is really gentle on your hands.

diavlo · 14/05/2020 18:23

Just get a massive bottle of cheap bubble bath and use that. So long as it lathers it does the job.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 14/05/2020 18:28

I buy carex refills and put in the fancy pump bottle we’ve got in the bathroom, My dc are small and cope better with pump soap. You can refill any pump bottle you’ve got, you should be able to buy refill pouches in the soap isle of your supermarket.

I can’t use shower gel on my hands it’s too harsh for constant use ( a lot of hand washing at the moment) and brings out my eczema & the dc

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 14/05/2020 18:28

Carex do them as do Dove and some others

Way back at the start of all this they interviewed a guy on the radio whose company made hand sanitizer and they were in desperate need to the hand pumps bit. He was asking for any spares to be sent in so they could be reused. I don’t think supply can keep up with demand.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 14/05/2020 18:29

The screenshot is Tesco but I've seen them in other supermarkets too

You only need soap. It doesn’t have to be a special soap to kill the virus.

Redcrayons · 14/05/2020 18:32

I’ve been topping up with shower gel, but I usually buy the refill pouches.

Crosswordocelot · 14/05/2020 18:34

Weve been using bar soap instead of shower gel and liquid soap for several months. It seems to last much longer but I'm finding it really clogs up the plug holes and the sink/bath is so much scummier and needs cleaning more often....anyone else find the same...?

maddiemookins16mum · 14/05/2020 18:54

We’ve filled ours up with supermarket baby wash/bath stuff. It works the same.
