I want to change my name.. help

As the title suggests, I want to change my name by deed poll. Nc as obviously this is outing.
My name is Harley, I'm female. People always miss hear me, and constantly get it wrong, previous job interviews/meetings etc, have always assumed I would be male. I cringe when I have to introduce myself. I currently work in a call centre and I have to introduce myself on every call, and people always get it wrong. I get called - Hannah, Carly, Heidi, kylie, Karen??! Marley, holly, and so many more. My surname also begins with a H.

I was thinking of keeping my name similar to what it is now but I can only think of Carly, and I'm not very keen on it. Has anyone got any suggestions??
Has anyone here changed their name? How have you found it, and have there been any problems?

ThanksGrin

Hayley is nice and has the advantage of being the same initial.

ArriettyJones · 14/05/2020 10:59

Holly is also nice, particularly of you were born in or around December.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 14/05/2020 11:00

Hailey? You introduce yourself as a different name at work on a call, but keep your current name amongst friends and family if you didn't want to legally change it

TitianaTitsling · 14/05/2020 11:03

I'd also go for the Hailey, only 1 letter difference, but maybe with the increasing popularity of 'Harley Quinn' from batman stuff, will more people recognise it?

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/05/2020 11:05

Hayley is an awesome name. I love an alliterative name but you may be ready for a change.

avroroad · 14/05/2020 11:09

Which country?

In Scotland you can reregister your birth and change your name.

WhyIsItSoHardToNameChange · 14/05/2020 11:19

I'm in England, I also have an aunt who I'm close with called Hailey, so that might get a bit confusing, it is a shame though because I do like that name

Do it! Not that there's anything wrong with Harley, but it's clearly making you unhappy.

Holly is nice, or Hallie (although people might miss hear that too), Heidi, Hattie...

Personally I really like Hazel, Heather or Hannah.

MabelTheCow · 14/05/2020 11:23

Harper?

You’d be surprised how even with common names people mishear and get names wrong. I called my next door neighbour Shannon for 8 years before I found out she was really called Sharon because she wrote it in a Christmas card. I was mortified.

ButDoUAvocado · 14/05/2020 11:26

My eldest was at nursery with a Harlee (boy) and a Harleigh (girl)
So maybe changing the spelling might give people the hint you’re female before they meet you.
I like your name and I’ve known lots of people with unisex names: blokes called Sasha, Stacy, Kelly and girls called Jamie, Charlie, Frankie, etc.

franfine · 14/05/2020 11:29

I like the name Harley. Hannah is a gorgeous name too.

TooTrusting · 14/05/2020 11:30

It's very easy to do. You don't need to do the formal name change at court, just a Deed of Name Change. You then make lots of copies and take it to the bank, send it to your credit card companies etc. DVLA charge you £10 or £20 for a new licence. I'll pm you a copy of the Deed later. .

TooTrusting · 14/05/2020 11:32

No need to do anything with changing your birth certificate, that will stay as it is. I didn't bother changing my passport because I'd only just got a new one.

TooTrusting · 14/05/2020 11:34

And you also just send a copy to HMLR, pension companies etc and they will change it on their records.

TooTrusting · 14/05/2020 11:36

Sorry HMRC. But if you own a property I'm sure HMLR will also do it as well.

NerfectPobody · 14/05/2020 12:09

Charlotte, with possible nickname 'Charley'.

Charlene.

Harriet.

MulticolourMophead · 14/05/2020 13:18

I like Harriet. My great grandmother was a Harriet, and apparently formidable despite being only 4ft something tall.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/05/2020 13:43

I do love Hazel. Great name.

FerneGreene · 14/05/2020 13:49

Btw my mum changed her name in her early 60s.. everyone's used to it now, even my dad and my brother (who has always used her first name rather than "mum") so it's never too late Smile

horrayforharoldlloyd · 14/05/2020 14:11

Charlie is very similar and a common abbreviation for Charlotte.

CoolShoeshine · 14/05/2020 15:26

Halle?

cheeseismydownfall · 14/05/2020 16:14

I have a lovely friend called Hayley. Definitely a girls name and easily understood.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/05/2020 16:23

What about using your middle name? That way you wouldn't have to change anything.
