If you’re an introvert, what job do you do?

I’m currently in admin, but would like to do something more specialised or niche. I’m thinking of training to be an archivist or conveyancer as I like working with information. I just wish I could find the right career and go for it! So what do you do?

I work in a call centre, so spend my days talking to people. I have to stare into space for a bit when I've finished but do enjoy the problem solving / admin side of it and even enjoy interacting with the frequent pleasant clients.

Teaching assistant in a special school. It takes me out of my comfort zone all the time but I love it.

speakout · 14/05/2020 06:48

I run a small online retail business from home.
I have no colleagues, don't meet anyone - perfect!

College instructor. Although teaching may seem more suitable for extroverts, I’ve actually found that introverts do a better job of it.

Sw at a jobcenter.

MinnieMountain · 14/05/2020 07:33

Conveyancing solicitor. But I do a specialist role which means I don't even speak to clients now Grin

HonestOpinion10 · 14/05/2020 07:34

A lot of introverts work in jobs that exhaust them. It might be better to ask for ideas on niche jobs for introverts.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/05/2020 07:34

writer- dont speak to anyone all day Grin

except in lockdown, sigh.

LashesZ · 14/05/2020 07:37

I'm a senior manager. Totally the wrong job for my personality - totally worn out by the end of the day having dealt with so many people. I have my own office though so my door is always closed Grin

TudorOrSeymour · 14/05/2020 07:42

Have you considered being a PA OP? I'm introvert and it suits me well. Most contact is through email really, apart from my boss. Nobody bothers me otherwise to muck in. I manage my own workload completely

Nighting · 14/05/2020 07:43

I'm another introvert doing a job that requires relentless social interaction. Best job I ever had was at a nursery garden. Just me, a polytunnel and radio 3. Bliss.

HonestOpinion10 · 14/05/2020 07:45

So far it seems in an ideal world you would be a successful artist or writer expressing yourself in your home office, workshop or studio, flexible hours, nobody to tell you what to do and everybody understands your moods and need for quiet! Alas i have no such talent that i could realistically live off 😂

HonestOpinion10 · 14/05/2020 07:49

Whats twattergy?

speakout · 14/05/2020 07:49

That is my life actually!

Apart from the quiet thing- not happening during lockdown.

HonestOpinion10 · 14/05/2020 07:51

Oh that sounds lovely speak

HeimdallSaysNo · 14/05/2020 07:53

I run Tube stations. Not the biggies like Green Park, but small suburban ones. One day I'll run Green Park though.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 14/05/2020 07:54

I'm an engineer. I do work with people but I have control of some facilities where I can work on my own. Also there's lots of other people like me (physicist/engineer/chemist-type nerds). I used to teach, which was fun but exhausting and I had no energy left to live a life or deal with SLT, so I changed career.

HeimdallSaysNo · 14/05/2020 07:55

In an ideal world, librarian, bookseller or garden centre worker would suit me far better.

Omeoffta · 14/05/2020 07:58

Worked night shifts as a HCA in a mental health unit. Only me on my ward, didn’t see another soul apart from the in patients from 12 and a half hours at night. Only had to see other staff for hand overs before and after shift.

I am a Senior Manager for a non profit but have always worked mostly from home, now all from home. I can cope with the odd meetings etc but enjoy most of my contact being through email although too many phone calls annoy me. Hate it at the moment as although I am at home all the time so is DH and he doesn't understand my need for silence!!

SweetPetrichor · 14/05/2020 11:21

I'm a structural engineer. Suits me - we're a consultancy firm based mostly in office. I don't do site work at all, just the desk based number crunching. Small team within a big company. Perfect job for me!
