Is this worthy of a GP call? Gross toe/pus picture attached.

I've had this cut on my toe for about a week now. 2 days I noticed the area around the cut was feeling a bit warm so I bathed it in salt water, applied some TCP and let it air (no socks, shoes, slippers...)

Today it looks like this..
It's sore, the area around the cut is hot, red and angry, my toe is pulsating like crazy. It's also very itchy.
I pressed on the surrounding red area earlier trying to ease the itchiness and some yellow/green pus came out of it.

I feel ridiculous calling the surgery about what is a small cut on my toe, but I'm concerned that it's an infection that's not likely to go away on it's own.

Thank you (and apologies for the picture Blush)

Yes I’d call, it looks infected. You don’t want it to get worse and end up with sepsis!

mcdog · 13/05/2020 20:34

You need a sporn alert in your title!!!!!!!

Defo looks infected to me, I'm jealous of the nurse that's going to clean that up Grin

Gunpowder · 13/05/2020 20:34

Do you have any dettol/savlon/Epsom salts you can soak it in in the mean time?

Yrs, call. You need antibiotics.

PeppasMuddyPuddles · 13/05/2020 20:37

I'd say yes too , it looks infected to me.
I think they tell you to draw a line around the red bit to check if it gets worse? But I would call the gp, or at least have the pharmacist look at it, I think they can prescribe antibiotics for some things now too.

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 13/05/2020 20:39

I'd be concerned by what looks like pink tracking lines leading away from it up your foot, although that may be the picture. If these are actually present, go get checked out ASAP.

LordOftheRingz · 13/05/2020 20:42

You need hot as you can stand water and Epsom salts or normal salt and soak soak soak that foot.

missyB1 · 13/05/2020 20:42

Yikes! Definitely infected, call GP, you can send them photos and they can do a prescription.

ActuallyItsEugene · 13/05/2020 20:47

Thank you for your quick replies!

Usually I'd not dither about calling the surgery, but with things the way they are I really don't want to waste anyone's time.
Will give them a call in the morning.

I don't have any Epsom salts Sad TCP and antiseptic creams/wipes are as good as I've got. I've just tried to wipe it and caught the scab on the top, it's pretty gooey under there (apologies!!) I hadn't even realised.

@PeppasMuddyPuddles The pink lines are on my foot, but I'd been scratching just before I took that photo. I'll keep an eye on those though, thank you.

Posted too soon and to the wrong person!

@PeppasMuddyPuddles Do you mean mark the outside the red area? I'll do that. Thank you.

Last part of my post was for @Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly - I'm watching those lines. Have marked the bottom with biro.

@mcdog I'm sorry Grin I thought a gross toe/foot picture would be too much, even for the sporners!

Cotswoldmama · 13/05/2020 20:52

Tbh I'd just squeeze the pus out and clean it up myself!

NerdyBird · 13/05/2020 20:53

You could try the LIVI app, but you need to register first.

Gunpowder · 13/05/2020 20:53

Noooo that’s not a waste of time. Quick and straightforward for them to sort out, I would find that sort of thing pedestrian but satisfying to remedy if I was a GP. Also it looks really painful!

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 13/05/2020 20:54

... and don’t forget to film as you squeeze. Sporner Corner expects nothing less.

Disclaimer: this is probably not good advice medically speaking.

Devlesko · 13/05/2020 20:59

That looks really swollen too. Put it against your other foot to see the difference. I'd call tonight if I was you, just incase it spreads during the night.
Neat TCP will keep on top of it, if you have any.

ContessaferJones · 13/05/2020 21:05

That does look infected. I'd soak in hot water (with salt in it, ideally - 0.7% saline), then squeeze it again and air dry as others have said. Do see a GP, you don't want ABSSSI....

ActuallyItsEugene · 13/05/2020 21:07

@Cotswoldmama I've just knocked the scab off and it's quite deep, I don't even want to start digging

@Gunpowder Thank you! I will be calling in the morning.
It's quite painful. Awkward more than anything I can't wear any shoes apart from flip flops!

@Devlesko It looks inflamed compared to the other foot, not alarmingly so though. I'm going to keep an eye on the lines, if it moves much quicker I'll see if I can get seen to tonight.

@Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies Now the scab's moved I have a real sporner picture if you'd like to see...

@ContessaferJones I'm going to clean it now, the scab has come off and the 'cut' is quite deep. I'm scared to put salt near itGrin

Cotswoldmama · 13/05/2020 21:10

I had an infected finger, it started off just being sore then got redder and redder and bigger, finally I could see a pocket of pus. I cleaned a needle and popped it and drained what I could out then cleaned with tcp and all was fine and the pain stopped almost instantaneously. I'm not sure if a doctor would actually see you or just advise you over the phone.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/05/2020 21:12

Photo please.

I would advise you to see the GP. I can’t say I’d go to the gp because I’m terrible for trying to fix these myself.

ActuallyItsEugene · 13/05/2020 21:13

Picture now that the scab has come off. I wasn't picking, just wiping the general area and it shifted.

Pre-warning, it's worse than the first.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2020 21:14

Ring if it’s no better on the morning, flucloxacillin is standard for foot infections. Lower limbs have faecal bacteria on them so things go nasty quickly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2020 21:15

Is the red vertical line a scratch or is the wound tracking?.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/05/2020 21:15

It does look deep. Actually I think a GP call would be best. How did you cut your toe?
