He's diabetic. It's just all cracked and gross

I’m not sure about the diabetes but I have dry skin on my feet. If it’s really bad, I slather E45 cream on at night, pop an old pair of socks on and have the best nights sleep ever!

HappyHammy · 13/05/2020 19:27

Poor guy. Diabetic sufferers must take great care of their feet and he should seek advice from either his diabetic nurse or the podiatry service. It could be a fungal infection. Its important he doesnt scratch or have any open cuts.

LoseLooseLucy · 13/05/2020 19:28

Has he not tried Flexitol?

AntiSocialDistancer · 13/05/2020 19:30

I would also recommend a foot health care professional. Some podiatrists will be running online consultations and could make recommendations for you.

Bumblewaffle · 13/05/2020 19:30

I second Flexitol. You can buy it in Boots and it works miracles!

Rhodri · 13/05/2020 19:31

Vaseline and socks. I have dreadful feet and it helps a lot.

foodtoorder · 13/05/2020 19:34

Good soak and scrub, daily flexitol heel balm until resolved. Free that daily cream E45 or certraben

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 13/05/2020 19:37

Yes, as a diabetic he needs to speak to a professional before doing anything that could break the skin down further (scrubs etc). Podiatry, chiropody and his diabetes nurse or a practice nurse with a diabetes specialism should be able to give him some advice.

HappyHammy · 13/05/2020 19:45

Does he attend his free yearly foot health check.

Nicklebox · 13/05/2020 19:51

flexitol heel balm may be too harsh I used it on the skin on my soles and the skin started to split when i used it on my feet and took a very long time to heal. I would get advice from the doctor before doing anything

endofthelinefinally · 13/05/2020 19:55

That looks fungal. How are his blood sugars?
Does it smell bad?

foodtoorder · 13/05/2020 19:55

Just to add I am type1 and a district nurse so have a bit of experience. As long as there are no open wounds a gentle scrub and soak is fine, flexitol is just an intense moisturiser.
Ofcourse if sounds or open skin the need to seek podiatrist help asap

SquirrelFan · 13/05/2020 19:55

Maybe you shouldn't keep them wrapped in yellow cellophane...

Nicolastuffedone · 13/05/2020 19:59

He needs seen by a podiatrist, he needs his nails cut too. Is he able to get an appointment at the moment?

Hippofrog · 13/05/2020 20:01

Chiropodist or Podiatrist. If he has one call them for advice, so important to keep his feel healthy.

Duchessofealing · 13/05/2020 20:04

Flexitol is amazing and suitable for diabetics.
(Disclaimer - not medically trained but have healed open heel cracks with flexitol).

ChampagneCommunist · 13/05/2020 20:07

My DP is diabetic & uses footner without any problems

daytriptovulcan · 13/05/2020 20:09

Lamisil cream for the any fugal infection. Follow instructions. Then CCS cream for moisturising. It's worth spending on a visiting podiatrist, who may visit subject to all the disclaimers about sars covi 2. I just showed this to a podiatrist who glanced at it for a moment, but you understand its not a formal diagnosis.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/05/2020 20:11

Dermatonics Once heel balm I find is better than Flexitol. It's expensive but people with diabetes can get it on prescription

DonLewis · 13/05/2020 20:12

My dB is diabetic and gets given cream specially for diabetics for his feet. Calm the go and ask what can be prescribed or recommended?

Does he wear socks?

DonLewis · 13/05/2020 20:12

Ffs. Call the gp

DonLewis · 13/05/2020 20:12

Not calm the go

dementedma · 13/05/2020 20:14

DH is diabetic. A while ago said he had a little hole in his foot. Probably a verruca . Week or two later i noticed his sock was soaking and asked if his shoe was leaking. He said its the stuff coming out of the hole in my foot. I investigated at found a deep weeping ulcer. Jesus it stank! He had no feeling in it at all and it was right under his big toe so hard to spot. He ended up very nearly losing his toe and it took months, seriously, of medical treatment for it to heal. Diabetics need to be really really careful about their feet.

Sleephead1 · 13/05/2020 20:17

I work in a surgery you can have a telephone consultation with GP but email them photos so they can see the problem I would do that if you can.

coulddowithashag · 13/05/2020 20:19

Type 1 diabetic here! Go get professional advice. I lost two toes aged 36 by not doing so
