I recently had a plann d c section, was aloud partner in but he didn’t stay as I was on a ward. He had to leave by 10. I met a couple while in hospital and the husband was staying but they had a private room. She did however have complications so was in for a week, this could have been why he was aloud. Maybe ask your hospital.

Good luck!

It's worth checking your specific hospitals rules. I had a section last week and my husband was allowed to join once I was in the theatre and allowed to stay for 5 hours after until I was moved back onto the ward. The midwives were very helpful though lifting my son out and passing him to me when he needed feeding. Good luck x

Ah well at least i wont be going in alone, thats makes me worry a little less. I have tried to speak to a midwife at my local hospital but they dont seem to be taking any calls, very frustrating. And my midwife does not know and keeps telling me to call the hospital Hmm i guess i will just have to assume i will be in overnight alone. I wish you all the best, take care and keep safe Flowers

Sadly most places aren't allowing partners to even go to the post natal ward from what I've read on here/experiencing myself/anecdotes from NCT group.

You'll be with other mothers alone and I've only heard amazing stories about how midwives are going absolutely above and beyond to support you.

Have you tried checking your trusts website or Facebook - that's where all our info is. Or ringing triage and explain you're concerned and need to know. Failing that contact PALS at the hospital and ask them to find out for you.

I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine without partner after!

Most places ARE allowing partner for the section as long as you are both negative for covid or at least have a normal temperature. It's in the RCOG and RCOM guidelines that it's best practise to allow partners in with you for sections.

Good luck xxx

Sorry by not allowed to go to post natal ward, I mean once you go there from delivery suite. In my hosp its a 2 hour turn around which feels like no time at all!!!

The hospital website should have advice. I had one Saturday, my husband was allowed in for the csection and birth, and recovery afterwards until I went up to the ward. It was absolutely fine as the midwives are there to help you with everything. The postnatal wards were very very quiet and midwives were on hand to pass you baby etc etc. I was discharged and home 24 hours after the section!

Hey. I've had 2 c-sections and was in overnight with both. 3 nights in total and my hospital didn't allow partners overnight. For my first the midwives were round regularly to check on me and the baby throughout the night, this was less on my second but dont know if that was because I was an 'experienced mum' or if policies had changed or if we were less high-risk.

My tips would be to adjust your bed to the same height as the cot so you can lift baby in and out easily. Keep nappies, wet wipes and muslins on the side table so you can reach them easily without having to wait for help.

Keep trying to get hold of your hospital so that you can find out more before you go in if it will help keep your anxiety lower. Good luck x

Its just very worrying as my first emergency c section recovery was awful, no help from the aftercare midwifes and completely alone as i was single at the time. Was hoping to have a better experience this time but being told that my husband wont be able to stay overnight is already making me worry. This coronavirus is just a pain to be honest but i respect the fact that the hospitals are just ensuring the safety of there patients

When I had DC1 2 years ago, DP was allowed on he postnatal ward but had to leave at 10pm (end of visiting) so I was on my own overnight anyways so unless you are in for multiple days I don't think it will be massively different to pre covid.

cazinge · 13/05/2020 19:41

I am due DC2 in 5 weeks (2nd elective section) and I've been advised no partners on postnatal ward but will be in theatre/ recovery

BAF2020 · 13/05/2020 19:49

Its horrible not being given any answers to my questions from my midwife, i literally have no idea what is going on and what to expect. I mean i dont even have an actual date for my c section. I understand everyone is extremely busy with whats going on but there a many expecting mums who are struggling with anxiety and not being able to talk with a midwife etc is not helping. Thankyou everyone for all your help, i wish you all the very best and take care xx
