Low carb is the way forward. Maybe also get a blood sugar meter so he can identify which foods send his levels higher. And I'd recommend a visit to www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/ where he'll find a lot of good advice about the whole blood sugar and cholesterol issue.

I'm a carer and did a course on type 2 diabetes and considering my step brother has it i was sure I'd get it eventually, I ticked all the boxes, and I did get it.
It was low key so I tackled my diet. I'm now pre-diabetic. The nurse told me I wouldn't have been classed as diabetic before they changed the classifications of 'diabetic'. Admittedly I remember having some symptoms but I do believe diet plays a big part.
I resisted all medication and tackled my diet aggressively. I avoid medication as much as I can, too many side effects imo. There are lots of FB support groups. Knowledge is the key. Avoid simple carbohydrates, white bread, white pasta, rice, anything with high sugar content. A diet of complex carbohydrates is all that is needed, substitute mashed potato for a mash of carrot and swede, easy. Good luck. 🙂

I don’t understand this. Your step brother isn’t a blood relative so why would you get it because he has it? It’s not infectious.

Look at the blood sugar diet too.
Lots of people have found that helpful.

If he goes on statins, then make sure he takes Q10 and B12 on a daily basis as they offset some of the side effects of the statins. We returned from abroad last year, and dh is due to have his statin changed, as they don't use the same one here as in Belgium, so I will be looking out for side effects.

See the section called "lipid modification therapy". In practice the vast majority of new type 2 diabetics I see have a QRISK2 score of at least 10%, so the majority of new type 2 diabetics I see end up on a statin.

So after a sleepness night DH has a call from the GP surgery to book in a phone call with the nurse to discuss the findings and to advise...he wrote a list down last night.

The appointment was for 2 weeks time!!!!!
He managed to get it for next Wedn after expressing his concern that he's confused with the information doesnt want yo take statins until he's discussed this with the nurse. The nurse is a daeabetic nurse who is calling him but he's confused!!!

If the Gp has prescribed statins and told your Dh to take them, the nurse isn’t going to tell him something different.

How is your husband getting on reading up about LCHF diets ? When is he going to start ?
