Burn seems wet - is this normal

When cooking dinner tonight I poured a pan of boiling water onto my stomach. Luckily I jumped out of the way and so it only splashed me a bit. I’ve never had a burn ooze like it is doing before. So I thought I would attach a photo and ask the Mumsnet wisdom if it looks normal.

It looks likes it's blistered and them burst which will be why it's wet. Keep it clean and covered it with a non stick dressing then just keep an eye on it. It should dry up and start healing quickly.

I think that seems normal, but I'm not a medical expert! There's a clear liquid that appears when you scrape your skin, so I imagine it's the same with a burn?

Thanks @Chesterfuckingdrorrs what freaked me out a bit is it was never painful like I was expecting it to be and now looks kind of funky. Hope it will heal ok and not scar.

I'm ridiculously accident prone and have burnt myself loads. Some hurt and others I've barely noticed. It looks pretty normal for a scald in my non medical experience and it should heal over ok. With it being on your stomach just don't let your clothes irritate it or get stuck to it.

Not an expert at all but I think if it's broken the skin it's second degree?

FootsieMcTootsie · 13/05/2020 01:13

A bit concerned the yellow stuff was infection but I am overly anxious about pretty much everything at the moment. Going to accept it’s a normal non life threatening non infected burn and go to bed. Thanks all. Flowers

@managedmis yes I think it is second degree. You don’t have to worry unless it’s third degree though right?

So long as it’s not red and angry then it’s unlikely to be infected. Just keep an eye on it and the skin surrounding it. From personal experience (twice!) it’s fairly easy to tell if it’s infected.
