Numb down one side?

Would you speak to your GP about this? I sometimes (maybe every few months) develop a very numb patch, over the course of the day it spreads but only to one side of my body/face. Today it started on my hip, now on my thigh, stomach, round my side, my cheek, mouth. I have a funny feeling too, not a headache but just really tired and disoriented, the eye on that side feels funny too. The affected places feel almost like they're badly bruised, almost a pins and needles feeling.

Bloody hell, I would be in A&E, not wondering if I needed a GP.

Shit really? It's happened several times before. I'm early 30s, generally pretty healthy, one long term condition but active etc. What would you be worrying about? I'm a bit of a hypochondriac.

A&E my aunt had a numb face, didnt think much of it. She then got a numb arm a few days later and ignored it. Rang the GP who told her to get checked at hospital. She is now in the stroke unit as they think shes had 2 strokes. Not to alarm you but go!

It’s not something you should leave OP. It could be many things but absolutely needs checking. If you have symptoms today I would get yourself to A&E as it’s best they see you when you are symptomatic.

A&E now, without a doubt.

You'll spend an hour on the phone to 111 otherwise and they'll only end up telling you to get to A&E anyway.

I often go numb on one side when I get a migraine during the aura before the headache hits. Usually my hand, and cheek go numb but not usually for more than an hour or so. As I understand it migraines come on gradually and strokes come on quickly but it is always worth getting it checked out if you are concerned. You can get migraine auras without the headache.

Def a and e and ask about TIAs and more.

Good luck

PotteringAlong · 12/05/2020 17:54

Right, have you gone OP?

goodthanks · 12/05/2020 21:03

Well I called the GP thank you to all of you, I definitely would have left it otherwise as thought I was overreacting. They got back to me very quickly asking lots of stroke questions. They think it's migraines related to stress which would make sense as I've had a really hard few days. I had no idea migraines could cause symptoms like this! Thank you all for the push I needed.

@Rose1605 That's really interesting. I didn't know you could get migraines without a headache until today.
