New 4x4?

My car has just packed in. I live with bad weather in the hills and I'd really like to get a 4x4 (yes yes, I know that winter tyres are better) but I have been stranded at some terrible times in my old car.

What's a good economical choice? Ideally we'll drive it for years and years until it gives up.

Any advice on finance options etc would be really appreciated. So frustrated!! Sad

Buy something Korean or Japanese- both have great brands that are reliable and built to last.

Avoid Nissan, anything French or German - they are shit and will give you nothing but headaches and open-wallet-surgery.

Whats your budget?

We're currently driving a Freelander, IMO a nice mix of comfort and practicality.
Ours was second hand but in top notch condition and is a dream to drive. We do have a fund set aside for repairs as and when, as I'm aware these are not cheap.
Bear in mind things like fuel, tax, tyres etc will be more expensive. I estimate the cost of our motoring has gone up by around 40% since we traded in the economically amazing but dull as ditchwater Skoda.

Ouch! Big increase.

I'm hoping for a cheap Japanese model. We loved pur old Suzuki it waz so cheap to run until it went instantly.

I'm hoping for second hand, around £15k ish? Thanks for help and advice!

I have a Suzuki vitara 4wd. You can switch it between 2 wd and 4 wd or leave it in automatic where it kicks in if you need it. It’s not a big car but it’s very economical. I can drive it from east London to somerset and back on 3/4 tank of petrol.

We have a Kia Sorento which we absolutely love. We tow a caravan with it and bought it many years ago because it was the Caravan Club tow car of the Year. It came with a 7 year warranty and has been fantastic we've never actually had to claim under that because it's just kept on going.

Thanks both! Will look into those.
