I’ve had mild symptoms on and off for years but generally cosmetic and I’ve never been too bothered.
I’ve now had a really bad flare up and one side of my face in particular is red hot, slightly swollen and painful to touch.
I think that wearing masks and excessive hairwashing/showering have made things worse but as they’re unavoidable at the minute I need other ways to help.
I’ve also been spending most of my downtime in the garden to avoid as much risk of contamination as I can and probably haven’t worn as much sunscreen as I should!
At home I’m using green tea compresses, sudocream at night ( although the burning is keeping me awake) Anti histamines and lavender oil.
None of which have really helped. Am on day 4 now of this Confused Any tips would be appreciated.

The cica pastes are really soothing overnight. Liz Earle does one and Boots have a couple too.

I drink MSM powder dissolved in water. You can order it from Holland and Barrett and loads of other places, I expect. It’s anti-inflammatory and helps a lot. You can also apply a paste of it to your skin (just mix the powder with a little water).

I wouldn’t advise sudocrem, it’s highly perfumed and doesn’t allow the skin to breathe, and could make things worse. It did for me.

In terms of skincare etc, I use La Roche Posay Rosaliac gel cleanser and just a basic vitamin C serum, no moisturiser (but I do have oily skin). Sunscreens of all kinds flare me up so I have several wide-brimmed hats!

Honestly the best ever make-up I have discovered is Everyday Minerals. It’s based in the US but you can source it from Ecco Verde over here.

Thank you Smile I can hopefully get to Boots and H&B this week.
Good point about the sudocream-it actually feels worse today. I do tend to use a light layer sometimes to reduce redness but it’s way past that stage at the minute!

My rosacea flared up terribly a month ago.
I usually only use water on my face as it is so sensitive. I joined a group on Facebook and someone recommended sulphur soap. I bought some of amazon for a fiver and my skin is loads better. At the moment I use it every other day followed by aveeno moisturizer.

I have found natural yogurt very cooling and soothing. Someone recommended making an aspirin paste for any spots as it can help dry them out. The last month I’ve been using lyonsleafs system and it’s really helped reduce redness and moisturise my dry skin. The ingredients are all natural. The cleanser is oil based and my skin is very smooth after. The only slight downside is you have to order it on line and wait a few days for it to arrive but I think it’s worth the wait.

For the spotty rash I let my skin dry out by using a harsh soap and then on the normal/dry area I use B5 baume. Aloe Vera gel is soothing.

I've found dermalex to be good (appreciate that's not homemade!) and sunscreen whenever you're outside.

Sapphire387 · 10/05/2020 14:29

@Foobydoo isn’t that interesting because the MSM I use is a form of sulfur too.

HotelduLac · 10/05/2020 14:42

I use diluted Tea Tree oil before bed, good thing I'm single! Kills the demodex, pls don't google if squeamish.
Plus an organic high factor suncream everyday.

This is a weird one but...I get rosacea and have for years. Skin is very sensitive.

A few months ago I got a terrible itchy bout of acne all over my neck and chest. Did a lot of googling and read about fungal acne. I had taken two weeks of antibiotics for a throat infection so it made sense. I put Nizoral shampoo on my skin (dry) and left it on for 10 mins before washing off. Took 4 weeks but left my skin completely clear, both of acne and rosacea. I wonder if the Nizoral killed off the demodex mites at the same time as the fungal acne?

I thought it would be really harsh on my skin but it was fine. I'm not sure I would recommend it as your skin is so irritated at the moment but might be helpful in future?

For now I would recommend Avene tolerance range, in particular the no rinse cleanser and extreme emulsion. Recommended to me by a dermotoloical consultant and is very calming and soothing.

stayathomer · 10/05/2020 14:56

I've used Avene skin soothing cream and it cools me down no end (strangely makes me look even redder but really cooled). I also use Cetaphil gentle cleansing wash which is the BEST THING EVER!!!!! Things that haven't worked are the Avene anti rouge urs range or Roche posay rosaleic. Each of which see pushed at me in every pharmacy I go to. I've tried just about every product in each range until I got through the product in most cases but some of them were horrendous. I also use Roche posay spf daily which feels quite cooling too. Obviously am also drinking loads of water a day too. Best of luck OP.

I started having this for the first time this year and thought nothing would help (was especially bad after a shower) - v. surprisingly, Dr. Organic Vit E soap has worked wonders! Totally calmed down the redness and improved the texture. Was really surprised as would have thought soap would aggravate it, but I used it to wash my face one day without thinking and there was a big improvement already in the morning. It may just be coincidence since the soap is on my face for all of five seconds, but worth a try at £3.50 for something you can also use for the very topical (!) activity of handwashing...
