Thrush and allergic reaction from new bedsheets

We bought some new bedsheets and we did wash them before use. They are made of cotton. We used them for the first time last night and it was like my private parts were deliberately closing up, burning and stinging. I'm still in pain now! I do get lichen sclerosis from time to time so today I used an ointment I occasionally use, which helped a bit, but now we're back from our walk I'm almost in pain. Should I take a thrush treatment or is this some other kind of severe allergic reaction? Do I need to see a doctor? I've had as much thrush during my life as the average woman but nothing like this, it's really burning. I've taken some antihistamine but it didn't make any difference.

We had to stop using our 15 year old bedsheets as they got contaminated with something else I'm allergic to that wouldn't wash out, that's why we bought new ones.

Is it worth perservering with these sheets if we wash them a few more times? I'm really shocked, I know new clothes have certain chemicals on but they usually go with one wash.

Do bedsheets really get that close to your private's to cause thrush? I think maybe you should look for the cause somewhere else if you think your old ones had triggered it too

My old ones had caused it a bit because they got contaminated with something and were also making me itch all over. The new one didn't make me itch, just the other problem.

What did your old sheets get contaminated with that you're allergic to?

I'm not sure you can necessarily link your new sheets to a thrush (or similar) outbreak. Why would just your genitals be affected by new bed sheets? I think it must be something else.

I don't know. It's a long story but last year I wore a jumper I hadn't worn for ages, washed it, and when I took it out the machine it was as if some kind of substance from the jumper went all over me and the other clothes. I don't know what it is, but ever since then more and more of my clothes have randomly got "contaminated" with whatever this stuff is, and it won't wash out. It eventually spread to my bedding as I got into bed after wearing some of those clothes and the problem goes on and on.

My bedding had given me slight symptoms down below but today this is a whole new thing, so much burning and almost breathing or moving like it's trying to eliminate something. I've tried talking to my GP several times but she's not interested.

If we can't sort the problem out then I'm going to have to sleep on the sofa.

DH can't feel anything on the sheets so I'm obviously allergic to something. I had an appointment coming up at an allergy clinic but the clinic have no idea yet if it's actually going ahead or not.

Do you have bugs?

Greengagetree · 09/05/2020 18:51

No we don't.

Dose up on Benadryl and see if that helps. Definately have a wash (just water) if you haven't already.

Do you have any issues with mould in your house?

Thisismytimetoshine · 09/05/2020 22:40

Your clothes can't be coming out of the washing machine "contaminated" with something you're allergic to Confused
Is it your washing powder?

wowfudge · 09/05/2020 22:41

What are you using to wash your clothes and bedding? What temperature washes do you use? When did you last clean the washing machine? What products are you using on your own skin?

NannyR · 09/05/2020 22:45

I don't think thrush treatment would help as it's an anti fungal, so would treat a fungal infection not an allergic reaction.

Tbh it sounds like you have two issues. One with your genitals/thrush and bedbugs. I thought I was just getting bitten by mosquitos for ages as had looked and looked and not found evidence and my dp was fine. After months I bought a trap and turns out it was bedbugs after all!

They like certain bloodtypes and also some people don't react to the bite. Also they don't necessarily feed every night. We got a heat treatment, expensive ☹️
