Pain after fractures

I broke my elbow and wrist over a decade ago and they still hurt! I also don't have a full range of movement. Would love to know if anyone has had similar and managed to improve the situation. (Posting now as I have been doing yoga in lockdown and it's still so painful!)

You've had physio in the intervening decade? Kept on with the suggested exercises? Were you told how much range of movement you could expect to return?
You've explained issues to your yoga teacher so they can adapt moves for you?

Sorry for barrage of questions!

I had physio for a year or so after the accident (during that time I had a second operation to clear adhesions). I did the exercises somewhat sporadically Blush but with young kids I didn't have a lot of time.

I was told I probably wouldn't get complete range of movement back but that it would get to a stable point when it wouldn't hurt. This hasn't really happened as if I pick up a heavy bag for example, it straightened a bit more but is also really painful. This makes me think there is still some potential movement there!

The yoga is just me doing exercises from YouTube!

Maybe see your GP about it once you’re able, see what they say and they can re-refer you to other places if needs be? A decade is a long time to still be having pain especially if you need pain relief, maybe there is something else that can be done to help.

Thanks. My GP says it's normal but I wondered if others have found the same. It doesn't hurt if I don't use it but I need to use it!

I broke my jaw and it still sometimes hurts me a number of years later - but not all the time. I also have nerve damage. I suppose I could stop talking - that might help!

I had a spiral break of the tibia and fibula, plus the ankle around 7 years ago. I had major surgery with pins and plates and rods and whatever.
I can still do most of the stuff I want to - power-walking, skiing, badminton etc.. but I just cannot run/skip/hop/kneel/crawl or jump (but then I am mid-50s so opportunities for skipping are limited these days and not being able to crawl gives me an excuse to get other people to clean low cupboards or underneath things.
I do get random pains at various points, along with referred pain from other joints I've overly relied on, and there are (rare) days when I can feel every single pin in the plate on my ankle. But I figure I can live with it. I'm better off than many and do most of what I want to do.

@CallmeAngelina I have had the screws and plates taken out but it feels more like the bone that is hurting.

@yellredder ouch! I think a ow of silence might be a bit extreme.

Yes, it does feel as if the bones are aching.

bluefoxmug · 09/05/2020 20:38

I had a broken arm a couple of years ago.
movement/strength is totally fine thanks to (private) physio.
but the area has become a 'weather indicator' and hurts when weather turns.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 09/05/2020 20:39

I had my fractured ankle repaired with pins and plates in 1997. It still aches and plays up sometimes, but it comes and goes. I've learned to live with it.

The one thing I cannot do is run. But that's ok, there are loads of alternatives. When the operation had been done and I was discharged, my consultant said to me "we've given you a 90% ankle back, that's the best we could do".

totallyyesno · 09/05/2020 20:45

I can accept the not completely straight arm but I would like it to hurt less when I pick things up. At the moment I tend to avoid using it which causes back problems too.
