I had never heard the term "picky tea" before joining MN.

I'm talking about the kind of meal where you have some slices of bread, a selection of vegetables and dips, cheese, and often some leftovers and things so it turns out a bit random. You put all the food in the middle of the table and everyone helps themselves.

What do you call this meal in your family?

Tapas

Picnic dinner or sometimes and oven dinner as that involves using odds and ends from the freezer into the oven, usually serves with bread, olives, salads etc

Growingboys · 10/05/2020 15:44

Eating up leftovers.

Loathe 'picky tea' and have only ever read it here on MN.

I used to go to Memphis with work. I loved the food but always came back about 5kgs heavier 😁.

"If it's" as in "If it's in the house, eat it".

MushroomTree · 10/05/2020 18:06

Picky bits that innit?
Short for picnic tea as my Ma used to refer to it... I thought...

HavelockVetinari · 10/05/2020 18:52

We call it bits and pieces or leftover mix.

bellsbuss · 10/05/2020 18:58

Bits and bobs dinner

whojamaflip · 10/05/2020 19:23

It's called "orts" in our house as in things that ort to be eaten!

Also used when I can't be arsed to cook and everyone sorts out their own supper Grin

stackthecats · 10/05/2020 23:28

my daughter since a toddler has called it a "plate", as in a plate of things...we're used to asking her if she'd like a plate for lunch but it must sound very weird to other people!
