10 year olds dimpled chest

For the past year I've noticed my 10 yo's chest has a lot of dimples around his breast area. Over the whole area it looks like how cellulite looks on a woman.
Today I looked again and now his torso area is also dimpled. He is a very slim build but loves to eat junk food as much as I try to stop him. Could this be body fat that is from 'bad' fats?
I also read a long time ago that male fat sits different to women so didn't think it would ever dimple.
Does anyone else know a young male that has these same symptoms and why they are like this? I was thinking to go see the GP in a few months if we are out of lockdown by then.

That isn't normal at all, you need to see your GP. "Bad" fats don't cause fat build up to look any different to "good" fats, m generally speaking where you deposit fat is genetically determined.

If you post a pic (or PM me) I'll ask DSis to have a look, she's a paediatrician.

When you say he is a slim build, is that his frame, or his weight? Is he overweight on a small frame?

If he is carrying weight on his chest and torso, it will look dimpled. However, if he is within the correct weight range for his height then it is worth taking him to see his GP.

Also, when my ds10 put weight on, his chest and tummy looked dimpled. When he lost the weight it looked smooth again.

Really wouldn’t do this.

He has a slim frame and probably weighs about 5-6 stone.
So he is small overall. No where else on the body looks like that, I noticed because he likes to walk around in only bottoms.
Im not going to send pictures sorry!

Before school shut he has a height and weight test and received a letter to say he was a normal weight

If he has a small frame then it is possible that he is carrying too much weight, especially if he was at the top end of the bmi range when he was weighed at school.

If he is eating differently since lockdown and is less active, it's possible he has put on weight, hence the dimpled look to his skin moving to his stomach.

Children tend to put weight on round their chest and middle. From memory, you should be able to see his ribs.

If it really isn't weight related, then you should take him to the gp.

No part of him looks chubby or podgy. It's hard to describe. He has a slim frame and his weight suits his frame completely.
It's just the dimpled chest and torso. His belly is flat as a pancake. When the sun hits his chest I can see the dimples more. But they have been there a while now I just thought 'this boy is eating too much bad fats and they are sitting there' he eats most of his meals but likes to sneak junk food e.g choc bars and crisps in between.

When I was his age I weighed less than him and was always slim up until about 5 years ago and his dad is also tall and slim. Maybe he had the slim genes but is 'fat' inside maybe?
I'm no expert just guessing 😕

Can you find an image on google that resembles what you're talking about?

JellyTots2009 · 11/05/2020 22:16

I've just had a look through google and this is the closest thing I could find.
My sons dimples looks like this child's torso does and it is also on both pecs. Only difference is my son is slim not an ounce of extra weight on him.

Looks almost like cellulite?

namechangenumber2 · 12/05/2020 15:29

Oh just realised you said that in your first post!

JellyTots2009 · 12/05/2020 15:52

Yes that's the only word I could think of to describe it but not sure if it is fat? Maybe.

@Chillipeanuts I get why you'd say that but if you advance search me you'll see I'm genuine.

OP - it sounds like your child is overweight, 6st in a 10 year old is very heavy. What is his height? And what do the bathroom scales say? It's really easy to lose sight of what's a normal build in children, so don't beat yourself up, but please do tackle it now before it gets harder to treat once he's a teenager.

JellyTots2009 · 12/05/2020 22:06

He is a tall boy, around 5 ft. So the 6 stone actually doesn't look big on him.
Anyone who sees him would always say how slim and tall he is, so I couldn't say he is overweight at all

HavelockVetinari · 13/05/2020 09:51

Hmm, in that case I'm stumped! It's not normal though, and definitely warrants a GP visit sooner rather than later - can you get a video call?

LockedInMadness · 13/05/2020 10:38

Can you see his ribs, OP?
