Ideas for how it will work after Lockdown

Does anyone have any ideas for how we will make a 'new normal' after Covid.
I was thinking that exercise classes could be run in large buildings like barns or aircraft hangars with a huge screen, like old style drive in movies. So everyone can be a distance apart. Users would change clothing before they arrive. A spacious car parking area would be required for cars and bikes. Good air recycling needed too.
Restaurants could 'hire' large spaces eg town centres or parks, spread their tables out over the space, you prebook a table and eat outside with clear walkways to avoid others. Staff in masks.
Any other thoughts anyone?

One-way pavements
Staggered lunchtimes in workplaces and schools

Unfortunately I don’t think we have the space in a lot of areas of this country to properly socially distance. I can’t even go for a walk locally and keep 2m away from people at all times, it’s too busy and the pavements are too narrow so I have hardly been out. I think it’s more likely they will reduce the distance and advise people to wear masks (once we can get them). Restaurants will have to have tables 2m apart and maybe screens in between tables. Other countries are also banning air con which wouldn’t really be a problem here.

In Amsterdam a restaurant is trialling outside dining in seating separated by greenhouses. Serving food on long planks through the doors and staff wearing shielding apparel.

I think once our cases are finally down to a manageable level the 2m distance will be reduced to 1.5m or even 1m.

Pavements - genuinely can’t get too worked up about that. You are unlikely to be in the vicinity of the same person for a prolonged period of time. People will just need to keep moving and be sensible with the space they have available. I’m sure the streets will not be too busy to start with anyway.

Public transport - limited capacity and mask wearing

Restaurants - tables 2m apart, disposable menus, servers with some kind of ppe. Small restaurants I think are unlikely to be able to open in the short term sadly.

Cinemas - seats left empty and limited capacity. Online ticket sales only. Screens up by the food counters. More cleaning between shows.

Schools - start with only half the class in on each day, staggered break and lunchtimes, less mixing of classes, focus on hand washing (this just based on my kids primary school)

Wine for Holy Communion poured into little plastic shot glasses and then disposed of straight away.

Not being allowed to try on clothes in shops
All children to be issued with a set of basic stationery that is for their use only.
Shops converting to ‘card only’ payments.

😂

Where on earth do people live where there's aircraft hangars and barns in every town?

Please could you let me know of the nearest one to Tottenham Court Road? Thanks.

Another effect might be people moving out of cities or at least buying a second home somewhere less crowded.
How far is Trafalgar Square from Tottenham Court Road tectonicplates? Can you bike there? So half the square bike parking half with a screen against the column. You would have to prebook a ticket to get a space. I hear people saying this is not going away any time soon - who knows, it may or may not?

This thread is depressing me ☹️ Will it really come to this?

reefedsail · 09/05/2020 13:10

A lot of these solutions seem to depend on it never being winter again.

Lifeisabeach09 · 09/05/2020 13:15

Masks will become the new normal in public and stores.
Social distancing of two meters will remain in place where possible. Companies will be encouraged to keep people working from home.
Leisure and exercise activities will be open air in warmer months.

To be honest, people will be packing pubs and restaurants as soon as lockdown lifts regardless of social distancing.

Tiramisuiloveyou · 09/05/2020 13:21

I dread to think my GP has told me I should be on the vulnerable list And shielding but I am yet to receive a letter. DH and I work from home (I am pt) teens do school work at home.
I am dreading the thought of what will happen and going back to any kind of normal. I have a tiny office to my self where I see people for appointments and have to often share a phone with them. Also the office, phone and keyboard I use are used by someone else on the days i am not in work. I am happier staying at home for as long as possible.

tectonicplates · 09/05/2020 13:25

You want to hold an exercise class in Trafalgar Square 😂

I'm sure that's happened for a couple of one-off events, but it won't become a regular occurrence.

This thread is so hopelessly naiive, it's hilarious but somewhat endearing 😂

I'm not sure many people will have saved enough during lockdown for a 2nd home....

EdwinaMay · 09/05/2020 18:26

People who already have the money- I would if I lived in the centre of a city.
Will crowded pubs happen without a vaccine.
I was hoping for imaginative ideas, didn't mean this to be depression.

Restaurants, pubs and maybe small museums/galleries could open with pre-booked only slots, so there's not loads of people at once and slots to clean everything high touch. People will be so desperate to get out to new places they could probably book up every slot for months so even if places are operating on half tables, it could keep them afloat? Many local restaurants have hardly anyone in them except on weekends at the best of times.

A lot of local non-essential shops never have more than one or two customers in them at once anyway, so I don't see why places like our local flower shop shouldn't reopen.

Chain stores could open pop-ups on suburban/2nd-tier high streets for 6-18 months (with social distancing) until malls and centres can open up again?

When our synagogue reopens they might have to have a rota for who can attend each week to maintain distancing.

A lot of UK churches must have such small congregations (with relatively large church buildings) that they could start services and maintain social distancing with their regular attendees, frankly.
