Infected belly button

Hi, after a few days of wondering what the horrible smell following me about was I realised my belly button is infected 🙈 I had a phone call with the doctor and she’s gave me cream to treat a yeast infection but it doesn’t seem to have done much over the past 3 days. Has anyone else had this before and how long did it take to clear? I don’t think it’s as whiffy today but I’m scared others in the house will start to smell this god awful smell emitting from my stomach. I’ve put on a few pounds from lockdown started, is it my extra belly rolls causing this?! I’ve said told DP I’m going to sit out the back with my tummy on display to air the area 😂

Mine gets bit smelly sometimes. I just make sure it’s properly dry when I shower or bathe, sometimes using a bit of talc to be sure.

I’m not particularly overweight - just one of those things.

MrsT1405 · 08/05/2020 22:29

Use a cotton bud to clean it and put the cream in. Keep it dry. Happened to me after a swim in south Africa. Smelly and awful but cleared up after about a week.

Imahappycamper101 · 08/05/2020 22:33

I’ve got some talc in the shopping this week, I’m probably being impatient and hoping the cream would have cleared it overnight. It’s went very red today but I think that might be the amount of cleaning I’m doing?

I’ve had this and find that tea tree oil gets rid of it, presumably as it’s an antiseptic. Apply with a cotton bud deep inside the belly button.

ItsAllForYou · 08/05/2020 22:49

I had this couple fo months ago, I used sudacrem and it cleared it up

Imahappycamper101 · 08/05/2020 22:51

I think I have some tea tree oil in the house, I’ll give that a try. Thanks!

What about some athletes foot powder?

Choctimeout · 08/05/2020 22:54

I had this three weeks ago!

It's probably not advised but what I did worked...

I lay on my back and cleaned it with TCP and cotton pads. Then I filled my belly button with it and lay back for a while (hurt like hell!).

After that I waited for it to dry and slathered it with sudocrem.

After three days it was absolutely fine.

Wash it with warm salt water then dry with cotton wool then really really hairdryer it loads. Stretch it around in all directions to get it bone dry. You will have to investigate if there is a small red or yellow tiny wound (in one of the wrinkkes at the base). Ot might need antibiotics rather than antifungal. Athletes foot powder is antifungal but I'd try the hairdryer then that rather than the talcum powder if I was you.
I had this problem but it was after I had a disolvable stitch which irritated ages later from the inside and cause an infection. Do you have any (old antobiotic) cream around?

AntiSocialDistancer · 08/05/2020 23:09

Keep it dry, so thoughout the day dry it out. Wash twice a day. Cream on at night.

I need a steroid combined cream every now and then if it doesnt heal in a week ask the doc for a different cream.

Imahappycamper101 · 08/05/2020 23:21

I’ll try what has been suggested here thanks, I can’t see any wounds but it has went very red the past day and I’ve been cleaning greenish liquid out of it . If it doesn’t improve the next few days I’ll get back on to the doctor. Thanks for all the help 😊

Cuticura medicated talc. I’ve had this. Honestly keeping it beyond dry is the best way.

GlamGiraffe · 08/05/2020 23:30

Green liquid...needs antibiotics

Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 08/05/2020 23:32

It sounds nasty tbh. I would put anything antiseptic you've got in the house in it overnight and seek help in the morning.

PickAChew · 08/05/2020 23:33

I just rub sudocrem in mine. Works wonders.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 08/05/2020 23:36

I get it now and again. Use salt water as hot as you can stand it and bathe it a couple of times a day. Dry with cotton wool and then apply the cuticura powder. You can get that in boots. I think mine comes from not drying properly and then sitting in tights all day at work.

Imahappycamper101 · 08/05/2020 23:48

Just done my before bed clean and it’s not green anymore but definitely still something there that shouldn’t be. I’ve washed and dried it and put some sudocream in it. I will see how it goes over the weekend and if no better then I’ll ring doctor again on Monday morning. Thanks again for all the advise
