Did you have a breech baby that turned themselves?

Hi all, currently 32 weeks and last time I had a scan baby was oblique breech, and it's only in the last day or two that I'm almost certain he's head down now as I'm feeling kicks more towards the top of my bump, but in these last few weeks he's been all over the place!
Just wondering - if your baby was breech at any point, when did they turn themselves? And when they did, did they stay that way or was there lots of flipping about before full term?
I had a c/s last time and am hoping for a VBAC, his position is currently the only thing that might get in the way of that!
Would appreciate your stories!

Yes! My baby turned at 36 weeks. It was bloody awful when he did - I was uncomfortable all evening, horrendous heartburn (thinking about it, maybe it wasn’t heartburn...).

I woke vomiting copiously at 3am.

I was having fortnightly scans, so a few days later we found out that he had turned most definitely on that night. We were advised that he wouldn’t turn back as no room to do so, which he didn’t.

He was born via section at 38 weeks after 40 hrs labour.

Laaf80 · 08/05/2020 15:26

I realised he had turned as I used a Doppler and was sure his heart was further down than it had been when he was head up.

He had randomly turned at 34 weeks. We were told it was unlikely he would turn head down at that point due to no space but clearly he managed it.

Laaf80 · 08/05/2020 15:27

Urgh - edit again! He randomly turned head up at 34 weeks.

Also I did spend time doing down dog and shoulder stands to get him to move. Whether it worked or not I don’t know.

Yes and it felt very weird! Was sat lolling about on my yoga ball at the time, leaning against my bed when it happened. I was 37 weeks

MarieQueenofScots · 08/05/2020 15:34

Yep. And unfortunately I have no idea how they turned themselves. I turned up for my c-section and was sent home again Grin

MooChops89 · 08/05/2020 15:45

Interesting thanks! I've been looking at Spinning Babies and got into one of the positions for a minute the other night, then about an hour later he had a right old wriggle and felt like he was break dancing into head down and I think (hope) he still is and stays that way!

One of mine turned himself at about 36 weeks. I didn’t do anything to try and turn him.

The next baby I had ECV.

mindutopia · 08/05/2020 15:58

Yes, both of mine were breech. I think they turned by 34 weeks, but only one was confirmed definitely head down by scan at 36 weeks. The other the midwife was pretty sure he was head down based on the doppler. I never felt any sort of change, so no idea when they moved.

I did lots of gentle swimming (not really possible at the moment unfortunately) and spinning babies exercises. Both of mine were straightforward home births.

Oceangirl82 · 08/05/2020 16:04

My daughter turned at 39 weeks, probably when I did my driving test! Test in the morning, final scan in the afternoon.

MissisBee · 08/05/2020 16:07

Mine was head down at 32 weeks, breech at 33 and back to head down now at 34 weeks. My friend's baby was breech until 37 weeks, then turned and she had a straightforward delivery

MooChops89 · 08/05/2020 18:43

0DETTE how did you find the ECV? I'm on the fence about having one if he's still breech at my next scan due to the very small risk of stillbirth

My second DD was breech until 35 weeks, then turned herself. It was a great relief, as her head under my diaphragm had been causing heartburn and making it hard to get a deep breath.

Kez200 · 08/05/2020 18:48

Yes. Turned about 38 weeks and didnt I know it! Not painful but very very strange. Thought I was birthing an alien!

MrsWhites · 08/05/2020 19:23

Yes my first turned at about 35 weeks whilst I was walking down the stairs, it was like something out of alien and made me vomit all the way down the stairs 🤮

mineofuselessinformation · 08/05/2020 19:24

Yes - at 38 weeks. It hurt like hell. I thought I was going into labour! Shock

catfeets · 08/05/2020 20:06

My baby turned at about 34 weeks. She'd always been breech and I was fully expecting her to stay that way. All Xmas night and Boxing Day I was feeling weird, had bad indigestion and ridiculously high levels of movement. I'd barely felt any kicks the whole pregnancy yet she went crazy when she was turning. I was so worried that there was something wrong but the hospital weren't interested despite all the guidance saying I should contact them to be checked over.

I'd spoken with a midwife at antenatal class who advised against trying to have the baby turned if she stayed breech. Said it was painful and not worth the risk. Also said it was likely they'd just turn back around.

Purpleorange1 · 08/05/2020 20:16

My last one turned at 34 weeks, a week before delivery. It was a strange feeling, my bump was a weird shape, just very uncomfortable. I couldn't sit or lay down as it felt like my insides were being stretched.

bumblingbovine49 · 08/05/2020 20:23

Yes. DS was breech until 36 weeks. I was booked to go in for them to try and turn him.. Early morning before getting the bus to the hospital, just as I got up, I had terrible pain which had me lying on the floor for a few minutes. It passed but I was worried that something was wrong. Since I was going to the hospital anyway, I just decided to go in and tell them about the pain. I fact when I got there they scanned to check he was still breech before doing the manipulation and he has turned around. The pain had obviously been that though that didn't occur to me at the time Blush

CormoranStrike · 08/05/2020 20:29

Yep, mine turned at 38 weeks - she is now 23!

bumblingbovine49 · 08/05/2020 20:33

Also I have just remembered ( it was 15 years ago now) that I did try the accupucture treatment for turning babies ( called moxibustion I think). I had one treatment a couple of days before my appointment to have DS turned and she gave me stuff to use at home as you need to do it 2-3 times and there wasn't enough time to have that many appointments. I did the treatment twice more at home ( which I remember was holding some burning stuff near pressure points on my feet for some time ). The last one the night before Ds.turned. No idea if it helped or not but maybe worth a try.

supadupapupascupa · 08/05/2020 20:35

i think mine turned 37 weeks and I don't specifically remember it although i deliberately went swimming to try to turn her. But I do know it caused strong braxton hicks so bad I went into hospital - where they told me thank fully she had turned. She was 10 days late in the end!

MrsTumbletap · 08/05/2020 20:36

Mine was breech the whole time, even had the procedure where they try to turn the baby (bloody painful) but it didn't work. Had a c section booked but went in to labour early so it became an emergency one.

All fine though, healthy baby.

Zezet · 08/05/2020 20:39

We were on a minibreak not long before he was supposed to be born, and he was still the wrong way around. In the swimming pool, I semi-joked to my husband that I was going to get this baby to turn around. Did lots of standing on my head (or what passes for that when you're heavily pregnant and in a swimming pool) in the swimming pool that afternoon. He turned then and there - I could feel his head so I knew. I guess I still can't be sure if that was a coincidence...

Unknown2020 · 08/05/2020 20:41

DS was breech up until 35 weeks when he suddenly turned and it was the most weirdest feeling ever!
