Going to try and do victory rolls today and a strong lipstick, never done victory rolls before so doubt it will work, but I’ll give it a try

Rose tinted specs for sure. Funnily enough a cousin has unearthed photos of my grandmother (b. 1924/5) and she was definitely not glam. Hard bloody life.

But if you compare those dressed up for best vs millenials dressed up for best, definitely more classy glam imo.

Also don’t forget that you generally only took photos for special occasions back then. You just don’t see pictures of them in their scruffs!

I wonder what the women think of how we dress today, jeans and t shirts/ jumpers etc

Be jealous of our comfort probably.

In all the pictures I have seen of VE Day street parties, the women do not look at all glam. Droopy dresses, even droopier bosoms and those crossover pinnies.

I think women with access to money looked glamorous. The difference between my cleaner granny and her affluent Canadian cousins in photos is stark.

My Mum said people just didn't look anything like how they were portrayed in films. Most women wore a headscarf all day and clothes were shabby and hard to come by.
As for nylon stockings........like gold dust. Gravy browning and an eyebrow pencil for the seam line was common.
