Favourite season in the UK?

Realising that the older I get, the less I like summer.

My reasons:

  • Overhyped, look forward to it and then what? You get a bit of nice weather, but then it's dark and rainy. I think it's the inconcistency that annoys me so much. It's so often a disappointment.
  • Feel the fomo. Maybe this stems from my adolescence but I feel like there's loads going on, everyone's out and about. Even when I'm busy, I still feel like I'm constantly missing out on something. Weird I know.
  • Guilt that I'm not outside every time it's good weather.
  • When it is hot, I don't actually enjoy it that much. Can't keep the flat, baby, everything cool enough. Uncomfortable.
  • A reminder that I'm not on holiday elsewhere!

Autum is nice with halloween, bonfire night and the exciting build up to Christmas. In winter I'm happy with for the few months that it's here with Christmas and new year. Love snuggling up with a good book and cuppa. Plus ice skating.

But my favourite season has got to be..

SPRING!
Bright sunny mornings, lighter days after the dark, crisp walks, pretty flowers and lots of family Birthdays to look forward to. Oh and Easter. I love Easter! And mothers day now I'm a mum. Grin

Autumn. I love it when it gets all crispy and misty. Middle of September to Halloween.

Autumn or even Winter, I hate being hot and sticky 24/7 & having to endure everyone telling me how glorious it is. No, just no!

Pipandmum · 07/05/2020 18:13

I grew up in New England and Autumn all the way. Here the same but it's not as pretty.

JimmyTheWeed · 07/05/2020 18:15

Autumn for me,no question because my birthday is in October. I HATE summer. Well,I hate HOT summers. Anything over 22 degrees and that's me done for. I simply cannot see the attraction of being hot, sticky and sweaty all the time.
I don't mind winter as long as it's not TOO cold (think: under 2 degrees in the daytime Grin). I don't like spring very much because it carries the threat promise of warmer weather to come.

JimmyTheWeed · 07/05/2020 18:18

Having said all that,I must admit I DO prefer the evenings staying light later. That, and the fact that it's a damn sight easier and quicker to get dressed and undressed in the summer (no multiple layers, which, when you suffer from a very frozen shoulder and arthritis in numerous joints is a total pain in the bum). Oh,and the gas bill being much smaller due to not having to have the heating on for 12 hours a day!

Summer and then spring. Except this spring obviously and probably this summer.

Toilenstripes · 07/05/2020 18:22

Summer. It’s so rare to have warm, sunny weather in my own garden.

copycopypaste · 07/05/2020 18:23

Spring for all the reasons the op put. Plus it's the end of the cold and the start of the better weather. Daffodils, blue bells etc, more sun, lighter mornings and evenings, the summer will be here soon

Whitney101 · 07/05/2020 18:24

I love summer with its warmth and bright blue skies but the constant pressure to be out enjoying it does get to me. I like sitting and reading a book and that’s hardly justifiable on a sunny day.

I agree with your points about spring but I think I’ll lean towards autumn as a favourite 🍁🍁

Am I allowed to say months rather than season?
June and September.
Not that warm, less biting insects (Scotland I'm looking at you, I don't live there but love to visit)
Places are not as busy as in July/August
And in June, nice long days

chunkycoke · 07/05/2020 18:25

Spring. I like the hope that comes with spring..not had much this year:

Summer - I love sitting in the garden with a glass of something cold and a good book.

Then spring, going for lovely long walks and seeing nature come alive and the feeling of hope and new beginnings, he only highlight of lockdown has been my long walks.

Then autumn, feels cozy but still warm.

Then winter, hate it.
