I use this term - but according to an article i read, it's an Australian / New Zealand term.

I have lived in Australia - and watched Australian TV growing up, like people did - so I can't remember when I learnt it.

Do you know what it means - and do you use it?

we used to say chinny reckon, Jimmy Hill, or big Bellamy beards (Whilst stroking a long imaginary beard)

Round these parts it was Tutankhamun, complete with imaginary beard stroking Grin

Well, surprised you must be then saraclara.

Very common phrase growing up (born in the 60s, child / teen in the 70s / at work LONG before 1986).

What an odd thing to post.

I'd completely forgotten about "itchy chin" or just "itchy" whilst stroking an imaginary beard. I was at secondary school in the early 80s and we said it all.the time.

The other phrase we would say from age about 15/16 was "that really gets on my tits" if something annoyed us.

I've not heard either of those phrases since I left school
