National trust open?!

Imknackeredzzz · 07/05/2020 16:24

Hi wise mumsnetters. I know The national trusts houses and car parks etc have closed. Does anyone know if something like the peter rabbit woodland walk in limpsfield would be open?

I want to take the kids over the weekend but don’t want to disappoint them and head all the way there if not!

It’s not gated as far as I know!

Thank you :)

Wouldn't you go to the website?

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 07/05/2020 16:26

No car parks open at any park or country park around here at all!

Imknackeredzzz · 07/05/2020 16:26

@Dialdownthedrama tried can’t get any clear answer

NT volunteer here. The Limpsfield Common page says 'car parks closed, please do not travel here'. From your phrase 'head all the way over there' it sounds like you would be driving there, so the answer is no.

The National Trust are obviously very keen to reopen, but to do so safely - we are being kept informed. But at the moment no date and no official plans. The places were overrun just before lockdown (free entry for all was clearly a bad mistake) so it will be a while. Sorry.

Littlegoth · 07/05/2020 16:47

From the national trust website:

  1. How many outdoor places are staying open? How will I know which ones?

As we have now closed all our parks, gardens, houses, café and shops, and have also closed all our car parks from the end of Tuesday 24 March, we are advising people to adhere to social distancing guidance, and stay at home.

pinksummer · 07/05/2020 17:02

I live in the area and you certainly can get to the Rabbit woods. I guess it's just parking that is the issue.

Imknackeredzzz · 07/05/2020 19:06

@pinksummer

Thank you!

Why are you driving your kids there?

The lockdown has NOT been lifted - you're not meant to be driving to beauty spots (yes the idiots said it was ok to drive to exercise but they have said only a short distance and have said 'be sensible').

Why do you think it's ok to go to a NT place that's closed its carpark and is 'closed'?!

The message is still

Stay home
Protect the NHS
Save lives

Twats might change some of it Sunday, but they haven't yet and THIS is why they don't say anything in advance, because people act like it's already changed. 🙇🏻‍♀️

I'm sorry if you're fed up of not taking the kids places, but don't be part of the group of people who the good work everyone has done so far.

Please

IncrediblySadToo · 07/05/2020 19:36

You've obviously seen this...

So, come on

Stay home!

National trust open?!
GinnyStrupac · 07/05/2020 19:37

How far away are you from there, OP?

Do the NT website and government guidelines tell you nothing?!

Monsterjam · 07/05/2020 19:39

Jeez what about lock down is so hard for people to understand. I think the guidance is pretty clear and doesn’t include “heading all the way there” to give kids a jolly day out

GinnyStrupac · 07/05/2020 19:42

A clue: please do not travel here

covetingthepreciousthings · 07/05/2020 19:45

head all the way there if not

Sounds like it's quite a journey for you.. in which case stay at home / exercise within walking distance of your house.

Doonecovid00 · 07/05/2020 20:01

Ffs she isn't running up to random people then hugging and kissing them GET A GRIP!! She is taking her children to a large open space for exercise. Have a lovely walk op.

heartsonacake · 07/05/2020 20:03

You shouldn’t be going there. We’re in a lockdown Hmm

If it's within walking distance of their house, then yes you may have a point... but for all we know it could be 2 hours drive away. What if everyone across the country drove to their local NT places?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/05/2020 20:07

No, it will be closed. All NT places are shut.

Imknackeredzzz · 07/05/2020 20:28

@Doonecovid00 thank you for being reasonable- yes we are going to go- it’s 15 mins away but just didn’t want the faff if not accessible

Calm down everyone - Jesus, it’s an open woodland area- I’ve spoken to other school mum friend since I’ve posted and have been there last few weeks - and whilst car park is closed the woodland is accessible and being used.

We will be letting the kids have a run and then going home while social distancing.

Get a grip people

🤦‍♀️

ihatethecold · 07/05/2020 20:42

Why the face palm?
She’s only driving 15 mins. You are allowed.

The frothing on here is bonkers at times.

Imknackeredzzz · 07/05/2020 20:45

@ihatethecold I know crazy isn’t it

Any route which is also a public right of way (footpath/bridleway) is open.
Some in Wales might be closed, but the Government did not empower rights of way closures in their emergency legislation. (Wales did- devolved powers). NT facilities and private spaces are closed. It's ok to drive short distances for recreation at the moment, but not far.
I would expect restrictions around going out for exercise are going to be more relaxed fairly soon.

mencken · 08/05/2020 11:11

lockdown unchanged. Not one of the four reasons to leave home.

but obviously doesn't apply to everyone....

going somewhere with gates, stiles, things that people touch, narrow paths? No thanks, not even if lockdown changes.

Gobbolinocat · 08/05/2020 11:27

Enjoy your walk op.
National trust closing houses I guess was a necessity after a poorly timed decision to make it free, and on the first sunny weekend of the year.
However the closure of all the car parks I think is awful. Many places have a nt car park

Gobbolinocat · 08/05/2020 11:28

Every walk I've been on, ie 4 has had gates wedged open and even pre lock down I don't touch gates, doors etc
