Tips or resources to improve 9yo handwriting

9 year old DS has always has issues with fine motor skills and in turn his handwriting. He's working hard at homeschooling but with much of the work being online, his handwriting is really slipping, to the point where I'm sitting with him constantly encouraging him to stay on the line, take his time etc. I really dont want to produce babyish letter forming sheets that his 6yo brother is coming to the end of. Any ideas? He seems to tire of writing easily, he uses a thick pencil and has always formed his letters in awkward ways. Teachers haven't seemed too concerned except for a referral to physio where he was discharged after assessment, but its becoming such an issue that a lot of it is nearly unreadable.

My eight year old is the same. His writing is illegible. I too am looking for resources. Sorry, no help.

I have bought the cgp handwriting book for year 4 from amazon for my nearly 9 year old. It starts with just words to copy then progresses with copying whole paragraphs. We do 15min a day. It's just copying so the focus is on writing neatly and no worries about what to write.

use this site for ideas & than check Amazon(as pp says)
buy exercise books with squares that may also help with distancing
words or one page blank one page writing (so he can do drawing of his stories beside writing)
just do short bursts of writing a couple of times a day encourage drawing a picture
puzzle books which do tracing wavy lines or mazes to encourage hand control. Its sounds like he might be a bit cross lateral -can I suggest you check dyspraxiafoundation.org.uk/
But do be aware that your ds may always find writing more difficult than most people - fortunately be able to use computers for school work -as long as people can read what he writes & his writing isn't too big -

My mum made me copy out 1-3 pages of a book every few days when I was this age to improve my writing. She'd then make me write out words which were scruffy or badly formed.

I despised doing it, but it did work.

I used the 'Speed Up' programme successfully with a few students.

Thanks so much to everyone for the links and advice. I've always thought he was midly dyspraxic, had issues jumping off both feet, and was late to tie his laces, ride a bike without stablizers despises football. Swimming improved his core strength and really improved a lot of issues . @CorianderLord I do make him rub out scruffy work and retry to the point of frustrated tears from him. I think short burst of practice are the way to go so thanks for that. I gave him the younger kids worksheets a few months ago and he was disgusted! I've raised it with teachers but they just say being a boy and summer born he'll be a bit behind, and noone writes these days anyway! Thats no good if he cant read his own writing Hmm Thanks again Flowers
