Is anyone here a disability assessor?

So I've posted about this before and there were some people that were really negative about the politics of such a role. I respect this view but currently am really just looking for opinions from people that do the job, is it really pressured, is it stressful, what is it like day to day etc. Posted in chat for traffic but will move if not appropriate.

Has the most awful and traumatic time the last year or so at work and looking to get out quickly to literally save my mental health and this role could be an option. BUT, could be terrible, and the healthy pay packet is making me think there are perhaps unrealistic targets.

I know there will be nothing therapeutic about the role, that's sort of what I need for a while I think.

Thanks in advance, I'm not in a good place and even thinking about different roles is helping me feel more in control...

Actually just checked the previous thread I posted and it has some useful feedback on suggesting it's pretty awful. Thought as much 😕

As an RN I'm bombarded with requests from various agencies to go for these jobs - I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. There must be something wrong with a job that pays £41,000 in London but has so few takers.

A friend did it on Merseyside a few years ago and absolutely hated it - she said most of the clients were those that many employers wouldn't hire e.g. homeless, addicts, just out of prison etc and it was a charade to put them through the assessment.

I don't know if such a role would be good for your mental health - I hope someone who has done the job will come along soon.

The above friend went on happily to work for 111.

The NHS is hiring RNs as Contact Tracers for Covid 19 testing. It's work from home - maybe that would suit you.

Thank you @Westfacing but looks like you need some public health experience. Also I'm an RMN although doesn't make it clear that this would be a problem, I'm assuming a general nursing background would be needed.

Yes I'm thinking not a great role if I'm already worried about my mental health!

Experience in a field related to public health or health and social care services as a currently registered practitioner

This is quite broad-brush I would say 'or health and social care services' and it says 'registered'.

A friend recently left. She too was an RMN. There were limits on length of interview, she was harassed to see more people per day and write reports in her own time. She was limited with regard to the amount of people she could recommend receive the appropriate benefits. She was frequently asked to assess for disabilities about which she knew nothing.

Thanks @Gilead that makes sense. Stupid to think anything else really given the pay is good and they are always recruiting!
