Any nurses out there with immunisation experience, particularly in school setting?

Hi, I am considering applying for a post as a school immunisation nurse. It is a band 5 and full time hours, but only runs from August to April. This is fine money-wise as it will still work out as more than what I earn in my current post, and I quite like the idea of having a block of time off as it will help with covering childcare over the school holidays. My current job is 27 hours and we only need to worry about childcare cover one day a week, if I was accepted for the immunisation job it would be two days a week.

Does any have experience in this kinds of setting - is it stressful, boring etc? It's too difficult to tell from the job description as these NHS job specs all tend to give the same waffle but with no idea of the actual pressures it entails. All advice is gratefully received, thanks!

My friend did this for a while, she moved into a research post 0.8 PT year-round when her kids were older. She said it was a bit samey and didn't really use her brain much, but she enjoyed the interaction with the kids, and got really good at reassuring the nervous ones, which she found rewarding. She liked how well it fitted her life (every holiday off!) & she worked with a nice team.

I worked as an immunisation nurse (MMR) for about 6 months. I worked in a team of 4 doctors and 2 nurses.
Very fast paced.

Most sessions run of the mill, but when anaphylaxis hits, it hits.
Make sure you’re up to date on anaphylactic treatment.
Good luck. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you both for your replies. I think I will apply at least and see what happens.
