What colour is your garden wall?

I need to paint my garden wall, not sure what colour to go for.

I also need to paint the decking so bonus points for suggestions there too please.

Granite so that doesn't help! Most people's garden walls seem to be painted the same colour as their house around here, so lots of white, cream and, increasingly, grey.

Our decking is stained natural cedar.

Vanannabananna · 06/05/2020 08:14

Plain old grey. But it actually looks really good

I like white but does it need repainting every other week? I've never had a garden wall before.

Decking just wood colours, not matching anything?

I did mine in a strawberry ice cream pink and I love it.

The valspar mixing desk things will do you any colour masonry paint you want, better than the boring pre-mix colours.

Do you have a picture? That sounds so funky. I usually err on the more traditional side decor wise but would love to see it!

White..I get about 3 years out of it

LycraLovingLass · 06/05/2020 09:15

3 years I can live with. I dont know why I think it will be rotten after a week its not being walked on or anything.

I have friends that painted their's black! Sounds awful, but in their big garden with shrubs in front it kind of disappears.

LycraLovingLass · 06/05/2020 09:31

My garden is pretty small, maybe 5 or 6 meters by about 7 meters.

That does sound nice with the shrubs though.

I don't have a wall but my fence is forget me not blue

LycraLovingLass · 06/05/2020 10:42

That sounds nice. Quite cheery.

Brick colour.No painting required.

LycraLovingLass · 06/05/2020 11:06

Mine is currently brick colour but I am hoping painting it might make it seem bigger and brighter. Decking going down at the weekend and artifocial grass at the end of the month. Got some garden furniture and skipping the shed.

You lost me on artificial grass but each to their own. I’m a fan of brick walls covered trailing plants and cottage plants in borders with real grass so I’m not the best person to advise. Having said that, I have seen stunning black fences with acidic green plants against them. Painting a lot of wall is tough though as very rough surface and it will need several coats to look good.
Good luck.

LycraLovingLass · 06/05/2020 12:16

I prefer real grass but just don't have the time to maintain it. Its currently flagged so even fake grass will look much better than that.

The only plants I have kept alive is spider plants and poppies, I planted 600 poppy seeds. You can imagine how that turned out.

A gardener I am not Grin I just want something clean and functional that needs at most annual maintenance.

Grass is what, a 10 min mow once a week? Try pots of plants/shrubs. Much easier to maintain and keep neat if that’s your thing. I’m into low maintenance too btw and my garden is full of shrubs and plants that come up every year.

LycraLovingLass · 06/05/2020 13:19

I wouldn't even know where to start. Never mown grass in my life let alone grown a plant.

I suppose the grass man could turf it, wonder what the cost difference is.

Brick. Unpainted. Looks good as it is, so wouldn't want the hassle of frequently repainting it.

MitziK · 06/05/2020 14:47

Mowing the grass isn't that much different to vacuuming a carpet or manky plastic grass like my neighbour has to do because it looks like crap

Brick ages and mellows to be the perfect habitat for many plants and some wildlife. I think the only other colour for it to be that isn't hideous is whitewashed - not painted, as that destroys all those lovely little pockets for Mason Bees, native ferns and suchlike - or green from stuff growing up it.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 06/05/2020 16:47

It’s wall coloured Grin (brick)

LuckyMarmiteLover · 06/05/2020 16:52

Brick 🧱
