Board games for kids who like to crack codes

DD is 8 soon and she's recently learnt about deciphering morse code and absolutely loves doing it. She also learnt about map reading and coordinates and enjoyed that too. What board game or similar can I buy that she might enjoy, any suggestions most welcome TIA Smile

Cluedo maybe? Or guess who but that’s rather basic. Rather than a board game how about a puzzle magazine like codeword or beyond sudoku?

We've got one where you have to work as a team to crack a safe. I cant remember the name of it though and it's in DCs bedroom so I cant check now. I'll check tomorrow.

DS1 and I have been playing "keep talking and no one explodes" lot. Its online rather than a board game though. One of you can see a bomb and the other has the manual. You have to communicate to defuse the bomb. It's great fun

Mastermind is a code breaking game, you have to guess the sequence of coloured pegs. It was around in the 80s but there are new versions which are the same idea but look a lot more modern

Have a look at Smart games. They can be played on your own or work together to solve with problems for a range of levels given. Not cracking codes but they are brain teasers. We have Red Riding Hood for my 5 year old which she loves. We also have Penguins on Parade which is currently a bit too hard for her even on easy levels but your daughter might enjoy.

‘Penguins on Ice’ I mean

Pass the Bomb, sort of

Jumanji board game is exactly what you are looking for.

I bought it ds. It's good but very difficult for him as he's only 6 but we can play as a family and it's fun.

You can buy Escape Room games that are really good, lots of clues to solve. Go for the easier ones if your DC is only 8, and you will need to help, but they are really fun as you play as a team, not against each other.
We played ‘Exit - the abandoned Cabin’ and it was tricky in parts but we did it as a family.
The downside is that you can only play them once, but the price reflects that - I think it was about a tenner.

Try Turing Tumble - it’s basically mechanical computing but very much problem solving and logic skills.

This is great (obviously a book rather than board game) www.amazon.co.uk/Secret-Codes-Activity-Puzzle-Books/dp/1409584615/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=usborne+codes&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1588754778&sr=8-1

And I can also hugely recommend Turing Tumble - there is a comic book adventure you can follow & then set up the board to solve the puzzle at each stage.

Everyone keep talking and nobody explodes would be the perfect game!

You need a laptop or something and print off some manuals though.
