Five weeks of bleeding. Getting worried.

I had the contraceptive implant 2 years ago and after six months or so stopped periods completely. Five weeks ago I unexpectedly came on (on the same day as DD which makes me think it is a period and we've synced) and it hasn't stopped since. It's not particularly heavy and I'm not in any pain but I'm getting worried that it shows no sign of stopping.
Obviously Google says I have cancer so I'm feeling a bit anxious now as I don't feel safe seeing a GP right now even if I could get an appointment.
Not really sure what could be causing it other than maybe weight loss/stress?
Just looking for some advice on how worried I should be/if I should speak to a GP or wait it out.

Definitely speak to GP. Any unexplained bleeding needs to be investigated.

Thanks for you... it's a real nuisance this has happened during lockdown but please don't wait any longer.

You should definitely get it checked out/discuss with a gp, but just to calm you down a little in the mean time:

I’m on the depo injection and my periods have stopped, except that every 18 months/2 years I have 6 week one, really light but constant, it’s like I make up for all the ones I missed!

The implant and the injection don’t guarantee to stop periods and the NHS website says periods might be irregular so I think this is what is most likely happened to you.

Thanks for the advice. I'm really, really hesitant to see a GP though, for obvious reasons and I'm 99% sure it's birth control related but the what if is making me a bit anxious.
It isn't something the GP could really deal with over the phone anyway I'd imagine and I'm sure testing etc isn't running as normal.
Bit upset about it. Never been scared to see a GP before but as I have underlying health problems I have got to be so careful. Fed up Sad.

There is campaign starting from the NHS to say it isnt closed and not to delay going for serious health symptoms. This would fall in that category. At our hospital we're bringing in more services next week. Imaging and blood tests (the likely first port of call for you) has never stopped for those patients in need.

Ring your GP, let them decide if it can be dealt with over the phone. They will be able to set your mind at rest that it is expected or treat you further.

I had some mid cycle bleeding recently which panicked me and the NHS page on it actually shows there can be plenty of different reasons.

You could have a chat with your GP over the phone and maybe have some discussion to rule some issues out (if your surgery are doing telephone appointments)

You are already setting up barriers. It absolutely could be something that could be dealt with over the phone, at least initially.
Stop googling and call them. I work within a GP surgery and we are having patients in, one at a time. One at a time in the waiting room as well. The only person that interactive with the patient is the GP.
I hope you're ok and get it sorted.

The same thing happened to me 2 years after the implant. The GP (the one who specialized in the implants) says it’s pretty common that things go a bit skewed after 2 years.
She prescribed some oral contraceptive which I took for 2 months which reset and worked for me stopping the bleeding. I’ve now had the implant out, but might get another one in future years.
Very likely to be your implant; don’t worry; speak to your GP, they might not be able to remove it now but you should be able to get oral contraceptive prescription.

My circumstances are a bit different but in short I've had prolonged bleeding after getting the coil fitted in January. It was my 2nd attempt as the first one seems to have evacuated. I got the coil because I've had very heavy and prolonged periods for a few years. I am 45 so it's probably age related.

I ended up phoning my surgery on Monday and got a call back from a really nice GP who explained that I needed a bit more progesterone and the coil isn't quite producing enough to stop the bleeding.

I've now got a prescription for the mini-pill, which is something the consultant had recommended to be me when I got the coil fitted, if things didn't settle down. It's not a great thought taking so much hormones but it dispenses with the issues that bleeding has caused.

I have had a full blood test prior to this that showed that I was anaemic but otherwise all in good health, with no indicator of menopause.

I've also had norethisterone prescribed to me in the past. This is a non-contraceptive hormone that will stop the bleeding too.

Really do give them a call to put the wheels in motion. I've googled as well when I first started getting prolonged spells but my bloods came back fine.
