Yoga ten minutes a day or an hour a week?

With classes cancelled I've moved to free online yoga, I struggle to find a whole hour sometimes, young dc, wfh, etc so I've been doing short ten minute videos and really enjoying them. I'm not going to get as much benefit this way am I?

I've been doing 10 mins a day (or most days anyway) for several months now and there is a very definite benefit and difference. I think sports science is now leaning more towards short bursts of exercise and "movement" these days, so what you're doing is likely better than an hour once a week anyway.

I feel better for very frequent, short sessions than an hour's class.

The habbit has slipped in the last fortnight and I can feel the tension accumulating and hear the increased creaking!

What ten minute videos do you recommend? I want to do this.
I used to do a weekly class, but now run instead.
So stiff and achey!

I've been doing yoga with adriene at home with my daughter. We usually do a fifteen minute video most days. I jog three times a week as well and have always had lots of problems with my pelvic floor running but am definitely having less accidents doing short yoga sessions throughout the week- doing my core the world of good

I'm struggling to focus with the longer classes online so I've been doing shorter ones - 20-30 minutes at a time 4/5 days a week. I figure that anything's better than nothing!

10-15 minutes a day makes a noticeable difference to how I feel, sorts my lower back pain out

Has anyone got any ten min Pilates classes? I can't do yoga!

If you download the Peleton app your getting a 3 month free trial at the moment. It has a few Yoga classes on it. Not tried them yet but I have been enjoying the Cardio ones Smile
Going to try the Yoga tonight I think.

Fab, thanks everyone! Much preferring the ten minute ones. I've been using yoga with Kassandra on you tube.

I can only do 10 or 15 minutes a day.....any longer and I get distracted! I figure little and often is better than one long session half arsedly!

AnnaNimmity · 05/05/2020 19:26

The Down Dog app is really good - you can tailor each session by time, type of yoga etc.

You won't get as many benefits as a longer class (in terms of building strength and flexibility anyway) but it's still better than sitting on the sofa! I also struggle with longer online classes - get very distracted! It's easier to stay focused in actual classes.

The app is free at the moment.

I much prefer a couple of 15-20 minute sessions each day than a full 45-90 minutes in one go.

TheLastSaola · 05/05/2020 19:32

My gut feel is that short sessions every day would be better for flexibility vs long sessions once a week would be better for strength and conditioning

onemouseplace · 05/05/2020 19:37

My favourite yoga teacher says it's far better to do 10-15 mins yoga daily than one class a week.
