Does anyone know if the vets would see a sick stray cat at the mo?

Presumed stray... Me and a neighbour have been feeding the poor soul for about 6 months...he was a skeleton but has been coming for meals twice a day now. Was riddled with fleas but we sorted that. Very skittish, but now can be stroked briefly.
A few weeks ago he appeared with a limp..but wouldn't let me touch him. He's still walking but is obviously sore. Then yesterday I noticed a lump on his head and today it looks like an abscess has burst poor boy.

I really really want to get him help. I know our vets won't treat someone else's cat, but we have no idea if he has a chip (if he has his owners should be prosecuted for neglect) I have a cat basket if I can get him in it, but will anyone treat him? I don't mind paying for the poor creature.

(I'd try and take him in but we have two cats and a dog and he won't come in)

You are a bloody lovely person.

Hope the wee soul makes a full recovery and that he finds his place in your family Flowers

What a lovely kind person you are 🐈

thecatneuterer · 05/05/2020 18:06

That's great. And unneutered cats are never chipped in my experience (except a tiny number that have been brought here from abroad with a pet passport). I hope your new cat recovers well.

Well done, OP!

You are a good person, everyone needs someone to help sometimes, that compassion is heart warming, you are an example of love and empathy.

ClaraEccles · 05/05/2020 21:51

Thank you OP for caring.

ClaraEccles · 05/05/2020 21:52

Oh yes.... and pics please! 🙂

StillMedusa · 06/05/2020 17:31

Well the deed has been done, he has a shaved head (and other end) and is minus his testicles and full of antibiotics.
He was raging in the basket when I picked him up so the vet suggested we kept him in a few hours and then let him free....

In that time he managed to eat two meals and spray my sofa bed in the study which was the only place to contain him(despite having covered it with as many layers as I could) Not sure it's ever going to recover and my house stinks... !

As predicted he had no chip.

Not sure if he will be back for a while, but at least he is in better shape!
For those wanting to see him... this was him a few weeks ago in the sun, hanging out on the green by our house... in peak condition before his injuries. He really is beautiful...

Aw he's gorgeous OP well done for looking after him Thanks

BarbaraofSeville · 06/05/2020 17:39

Oh my, what I beauty. I was worried when there was no update yesterday that there had been bad news, but I missed that it was all happening today. It's amazing how quickly they seem to recover.

Hopefully he will calm down hugely and possibly integrate into your household or possibly continue to be an outdoor cat that just comes to you for food, but if it turns out that he doesn't settle with your cats, a rescue will have no trouble finding a home for him, greys are usually amongst the easiest to rehome.

Oh my goodness - he's gorgeous!! So glad the op is over with.

This stuff is good for getting rid of cat spray smell.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 06/05/2020 18:03

Spraying aside - you are a lucky bugger that he chose you. He’s handsome. 🥰

He’ll forgive you the testicles come time! Flowers

JessicaDay · 06/05/2020 18:17

AvalancheKit · 06/05/2020 18:22

He's just been back for some supper and is sunning himself on my doorstep :) He won't come in but accepted a head rub so I guess I'm forgiven! If he really won't come in I'll look into getting him a proper kennel before the winter...

BBCK · 06/05/2020 19:56

What a beauty! You’ve done an amazing thing OP

Handbag101 · 06/05/2020 21:11

This has made my day. Does he have a name?

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 06/05/2020 22:46

He has a cheeky little smile like Deacon from what we do in the shadows.

Little bit young, wee bit naughty, tiny bit of a rebel but ultimately rather handsome - with little nippy teeth. Smile

StillMedusa · 06/05/2020 22:58

His name is...
Sebastian Grin One of my (adult) kids named him.. said kid smokes and is sent away from the house to light up and so he and Sebastian have spent quite a few hours on the green opposite together.. that's how we first got to see him when he was in a pitiful state.

Our official cats and dog have suitably poncy names also and he is rather elegant fellow. I meant to ask the vet how old they thought he was but forgot as he was raging and trying to attack the vet through the bars of my cat basket !!!

Well done OP!
I inherited two strays over the year. Both of them had terrible teeth when they moved in. The first one used to just crouch in the garden in the rain,it was so sad but once he moved in he had a lovely life with me.
I wonder about the history of these strays? In a way I hope it is comforting to people who’ve lost their cats.... they usually manage to find someone to look after them.

Aloe6 · 07/05/2020 09:19

He’s gorgeous. Every grey cat I’ve met has had a lovely temperament. Once the hormones die down he should stop spraying.
