Deliveroo keep giving me too much wine.

This is the 2nd time in 2 weeks where I have ordered various items from deliveroo and have included in my order 2 bottles of 187cl wine. I only order these 2 tiny small glass size bottles because I really can't handle my alcohol Confused this is the second time they have turned up with 2 x 750 cl of wine for me. First time I debated phoning the shop to point out the mistake, but was worried I might get a store assistant in to trouble so I said nothing.....I just got hammered. Tonight, before my order arrived the shop owner phoned me to apologise that he was sold out of the brand I ordered and he would send a different brand instead. He was so lovely and apologetic that I can't possibly call back and explain his major mistake here. I don't have work tomorrow. I'm just finishing off a bit of DIY (painting etc). I really need not to drink this 😳😳😳😂

Is it feasible to save 2/3 of the bottle for another night? Maybe when you've finished DIY?

user1471481356 · 04/05/2020 23:31

You don’t have to drink it just because you have it. Just have one glass.

tvbracket · 04/05/2020 23:32

@Piemam

I will try really hard. It's going to be difficult though.

Don't drink it then.
And if you feel that you won't be able to stop yourself drinking more than you should, pour out a glass and chuck the rest down the sink. It's more of a waste to drink to excess.

giving me too much wine

Just have one glass.

Don't drink it then.

I'm struggling to understand some of the concepts being discussed here.

tvbracket · 04/05/2020 23:38

@ErrolTheDragon
You are right. I know I should do what you say. It's difficult though. I've come to a lot of harm in the (recent) past because of drinking too much.

It's really not funny Confused

If you can't stop yourself then you need to NOT order wine for a while until you have better control.

An entire bottle to yourself is quite a lot if it's because you don't have the control to stop yourself.

browzingss · 04/05/2020 23:40

If you’re essentially an alcoholic who can’t stop when you start, you should have definitely alerted them to this error. You know it’s a bad idea for you. At the very least I’m sure there’s quite a price difference between the small bottles you paid for and what you received.

MsJaneAusten · 04/05/2020 23:41

OP, it’s obviously bothering you. Go now and pour two thirds away. You can do that. Go on. Go now Flowers

Stop ordering wine and kidding yourself you're not going to drink it.
"Coming to a lot of harm" from alcohol abuse sounds a world away from just drinking too much.
Ring al anon if it's a real problem, maybe?

browzingss · 04/05/2020 23:43

Maybe just email/call the shop tomorrow and inform them about this, they may have a system error causing them to pack the incorrect size. It will stop this from happening in the future so you won’t find yourself in this position again, you don’t want to go on a downward spiral after all

tvbracket · 04/05/2020 23:44

Last time this happened I ended up running around the city centre in a face mask and goggles screamingly we are all going to die 😳

Op - I'm an alcoholic. Lockdown encourages it. Not just in boredom. But of course deliveries want to sell you a bottle (70cl) and not glasses. They need to keep contact to minimum and make maximum profit in limited times.

I'm coping by measuring the bottle (70cl) into measures once I get it. Top with cling film (I know it's bad for the environment but I need to live as an addict and without it I'd drink it all and die) and drink the measures as you'd get in a pub. No more. Acknowledge days you would not have drank before- ie- keep the weekend rule

@Waitingforadulthood

Thank you. Thank you. 🙏

No offence, but if this is true then I don't think you should be drinking at all

Crystal87 · 04/05/2020 23:56

Just buy small bottles of wine elsewhere and don't order them on Deliveroo. Or don't buy it at all.

tvbracket · 05/05/2020 00:37

@DrinkSangriaInThePark

Yeah it happened. I know I need to stop drinking. I thought it would be okay to get 2 tiny bottles. But they have sent me 2 big bottles by mistake. 2nd time. And it's not making me feel good. I've just spent 30 minutes on the phone to the Samaritans. And I've only had one (large) glass.

OP posts:
NorthernLass75 · 05/05/2020 00:46

My mother is an alcoholic. She blames others for “making” her drink too much- eg, she’ll order a glass of wine in a bar and they’ll give her a large one and next thing she’s two bottles in and hurling abuse.

OP, I think your blame is misplaced here. You obviously struggle with alcohol so need to seek help to stop ordering any in the first place.

Do you order food on Deliveroo or just wine? Can you delete the app?

Northernsoullover · 05/05/2020 00:50

I really feel for you because I was in a similar situation. No sooner than I'd had my first sip it was go large or go home (or in my case go large AT home) after years of trying to moderate, which included buying mini bottles I had to face up to the fact that I couldn't control it.
There is a saying 'when I enjoy it I can't control it and when I control it I can't enjoy it'.
Someone suggested I try the Craig Beck book called Alcohol Lied to Me and by the time I finished listening (Audible) I had gone from one bottle of wine per day to nothing with barely any discomfort.

I've been alcohol free for over a year now and I can honestly say ive got my life back. Its had its moments but I have had the happiest year in 30 years (when I started drinking). Give it a try please OP. You have absolutely nothing to lose by giving it a go.

Please don't drink. At all, because it sounds like your decision making is hugely impaired and at the moment that's even more of a risk than normal.

You need to seek some support for your drinking if it's so hard for you to not consume it when it's available Thanks
