Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

Before this pandemic my husband had a sleep study for sleep apnoea at home. The results came back that he has obstructive sleep apnea and that they wanted to trial him with a cpap machine but the waiting list for this treatment was six months. It’s now obviously been postponed.

When I looked into purchasing a machine it does say you can’t without a doctors note which as he hasn’t had the cpap trial we don’t have.

Can any of you recommend anything else we can try whilst we wait as both our quality of sleep is terrible. He has all the usual symptoms in that he snores, stops breathing, jerks awake and chokes.

I’m at my wits end as I am already a light sleeper and I obviously want to help him too as I hate witnessing it happen :(

Is he overweight? If he is, he should be doing everything possible to lose weight. Obviously, it's not an immediate fix, but for his health it's vitally important. Aside from that, has he tried using a wedge pillow or breathing strips?

He is on a diet and trying to loose weight.

He’s a very stocky man and takes up half of a king size bed, so I don’t think personally that he would fit on a wedge if I’m honest. I’ll look into the measurements. Haven’t tried breathing strips so will look into that too.

The sleep apnea team recommended some mouth guards but they had horrendous reviews on Amazon.

Sorry just to clarify he takes up half a king sized bed when he’s laying on his back

I'd get him a wedge pillow . You can buy them on Amazon. My DH was supposed to get a cpap machine for sleep apnoea, but he just wouldn't get one. So I did some research and got him one of the wedge pillows. He got immediate relief and hasn't had an apnoea attack since that day. I'd highly recommend them.
