Neighbours bonfire

Neighbours have had a bonfire going most nights this week and last. It’s a built up area - and I think smoke free.

Not sure what they are burning tonight but it’s very loud (can hear it cracking inside, windows closed, over the tv) and it’s producing lots of black thick smoke. I have closed all the windows but can still smell it inside - no mission of going into garden. I though we weren’t supposed to have bonfires in lock down?

Why? Confused

YANBU It’s been advised that nobody has bonfires.

Check your local councils website. It might be banned in your area.

Twats.

Check with your council and complain.

Toilenstripes · 03/05/2020 20:41

Why? Because there’s a pandemic that attacks the human respiratory system. 🙄

SauvignonBlanche · 03/05/2020 20:42

Where has this been advised?
I hate bonfires so would be delighted if this was the case.

yes local authorities have told their residents NOT to have bonfires across the country owing to local fire crews being heavily involved in other medical and covid-19 logistical tasks ,if this continues if at all possible talk to them and let them know they cannot do this by law ,if you feel you can not approach them then report them to the police for not adhering to the Covid-19 legislations provided by the local authority ,it may also be worth using a double approach of also reporting them to your local authority too ,hope this is helpful ?

In our town someone's bonfire meant 6 households losing their fences- it was seriously scary!!!

SauvignonBlanche · 03/05/2020 20:46

There’s nothing on the Gov.uk site, it must be down to individual councils?

Bonfires mustn't cause an nuisance.

Having a bonfire most days over two weeks can definitely be seen as a nuisance.

Itwasntme1 · 03/05/2020 20:53

I thought it had been advised because of stretching the fore service, and so many people experiencing respiratory symptoms.

I will google, maybe I dreamt it. Just annoyed - they are very sensitive to others infringing on their rights. Have made huge deals over years about really small things, but don’t seem to care if they cause a nuisance.
