To anyone that's quit smoking..

I stopped smoking just under 3 months ago. I went on to vaping and stopped that when I developed a sore throat. For 2 weeks I've been off the vape, but have since had a persistent sore throat and (sorry tmi) clear mucus. Could this be because I've quit smoking and all the stuff clearing out? Just wondered if anyone had experienced something similar.

It took about 6 months for my chest to clear up after I stopped. I suppose it might depend how long you smoked for. (20 years in my case)

I felt like I got every bug going too. Well done for quitting, it's such a huge achievement.

Perhaps ring your GP if you're worried? Our are very quiet at the moment and are doing phone and video apps.

Thank you @SharpieInThe I smoked about 10-12 years! Well done also for giving up!

I have spoken to my GP they think its viral and taking a while to clear but no snot or temperature or anything just mucus and sore throat. Why I thought maybe more likely to do with quitting smoking.

Well done both :)

Avocado sounds more like a reaction to stopping smoking to me and your system repairing.

A friend said he got a really dry, uncomfortable throat with vaping (he stopped rollies and went straight onto vaping like you) so had to stop. But started smoking again, unfortunately!

AvocadoPrime · 04/05/2020 12:52

That's what I'm hoping for!
Yes I noticed my throat was weird when vaping which is why I stopped. So I understand your friend starting again to be honest.
I'm just getting frustrated not knowing if I have a stubborn virus or if I have ex smoker lungs doing their job lol.

Yes, this is fairly common when you stop smoking it has definitely happened to me in the past.

Im a smoker (unfortunately) and have "given up" many many times.

Each and everytime i get a chesty cough and bring up all the crap and a horrible dry sore throat

Frownette · 04/05/2020 13:43

@Pinkbubbles12 yep I haven't escaped yet either

Frownette · 04/05/2020 13:44

I like hearing about people who've stopped though!

AvocadoPrime · 04/05/2020 13:46

Did anyone else find quitting just made them ultra anxious. I'm literally very much debating buying some fags just to get rid of this feeling.

My husband vaped and the guy in the shop said he should be sipping water constantly the first few weeks or he'd suffer.

The anxiety is the "worry" that you'll never smoke again. Common trap. You start to feel like you've managed to quit, and then h no, it hits you, you can't ever do it again and we forget all the brilliant reasons we quit and look through our rose tinted smokey glasses at what we've given up.

Honestly, don't do it.

Go back to vaping with loads of water if you need to, but I can honestly tell you that "failure cigarette" will taste horrible, it'll make your symptoms worse and then you get the awful knowing it was all for nothing sadness.

I WAS a serial quitter and I fell into this trap so many times. Just meant I had to suffer it all over again.

You've done the hard bit. I promise. Smoking now is like running 20 miles of a marathon and then getting the bus back to the start to run it again.
