That looks lovely spam, very similar to what I’ve got planned!

The cake is out of the oven and the house smells fantastic. Am fighting the urge to eat it now while it’s still hot...

Yes, I know that place! Twenty mins away...we’ll have to share flour supplier/farm shop recommendations!

I’ve just had a piece of the loaf cake with butter and a cup of coffee. It’s really nice. I probably could have taken it out of the oven five minutes earlier but definitely one I’d do again.

I used half maple syrup, half agave nectar, all whole meal self raising flour, half walnuts and half raisins, plain yoghurt instead of buttermilk and slightly the wrong size tin!!! A good one for using up quite a lot of sourdough discard though.

Yum - I'm baking banana bread this weekend, I'll have to do it with sourdough starter now!

Baguettes look great weeds - how was the crumb?

I'm making a green salad and a tomato, olive and feta savoury clafoutis for lunch - I needed to use up some eggs and cream and the kids are having pizza so I thought this would be a good low-carb option for me and DH. He looks absolutely wrecked the last couple of days - he is a teacher and has been teaching full-time over teams and zoom. His diet and exercise has gone out the window the last week or so. Half term can't come soon enough - though he has telephone calls with parents and boys all day Saturday so he can't kick back until Saturday night.

Dough is proving for more sourdough boules as well! Baking tomorrow morning.

@PurpleDaisies and @Weedsnseeds1 I’m in the same county as you two, but further south.

@Spam88 your Greek meal looks delicious.

caperplips · 22/05/2020 13:23

That loaf looks gorgeous, as does all the food as usual!

Last night we had fillet steak cooked on the BBQ with BBQ'd asparagus, skinny fries for dd, potato gratin and roasted carrots, peppercorn sauce and a lovely big glass of malbec and it was delicious!

Today we're having grilled smoked bacon in toasted bagels for lunch with fruit, then coffee and oat coconut biscuits

Dinner is chicken breasts cooked in a creamy, herby tomato sauce served with penne, garlic bread and salad and the rest of the malbec for me!

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 13:33

PurpleDasies Lidl have SR and Plain here and I have a private and inexhaustible supy of bread flour. If you need any, you can PM me and I can drop some round. If you need any Shipton Mill stuff I should be able to get my dealer to order that in too!
Dunster watermill's flour is lively too, but it's been shut since this started.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 13:34

Lovely, not lively

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 13:34

Hello Wildernesstips Grin

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 13:36

Xiaoxiong the crumb was great. I should have taken a photo but all 3 loaves got inhaled by us plus two neighbours!

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 13:37

Feta in the hole sounds tasty tooSmile

Xiaoxiong · 22/05/2020 14:20

Haha sounds like you should have baked 6 after all!! Grin

I have a big fillet of pollock to do something with tonight...I'm kind of inspired by this recipe: www.bonappetit.com/recipe/cod-with-soy-caramelized-onions-and-potatoes but want to adapt it into a tray bake of some kind. I'll have to think how I can do it. Roast broccoli on the side as well.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 17:57

Made some ginger biscuits with atta flour today and they are really good, better than with standard floyr. Excellent crunch to them Smile

And 6 more baguettes.

Once you pop, you just can't stop!! I've been so tempted to bake more baguettes today. There's nothing like a freshly baked baguette, even the par-baked ones don't hold a candle to them.

Our fuses went out in the kitchen and we didn't figure out what was happening until it was too late for dinner. So fish and chips it was. Pollock will have to wait till tomorrow night!

Anyone have any ideas for 500g of rhubarb, and a lot of stale cereal (particularly weetabix?)

PurpleDaisies · 22/05/2020 20:09

It’s been a lovely day of baking and getting some course stuff done. Thanks for the offer of flour weeds, I’ll remember that! I hadn’t thought of lidl, will check there next time I’m out.

A huge thanks for that pitta recipe. Oh my goodness they’re good. I’m never buying them again. We had them with a Greek spread. Lots of lovely leftovers...

Pittas look great purple.
Weetabix makes good crumble topping and you can also use them for the sweet, uncooked tray bakes, rocky road type ones, Xiaoxiong. Are you the jam making type? Rhubarb and orange jam is amazing.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 21:34

And sourdough pizza

PurpleDaisies · 22/05/2020 22:02

Rhubarb crumple isn’t exactly ground breaking but it’s my one of my favourite comfort foods. Rhubarb frangipani tarts are lovely too.

Is that a purely sourdough starter raised pizza weeds? A lot of the recipes I’ve seen have yeast too. It looks delicious.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 22:25

Yes, it's just sourdough. Hellraisin is pretty lively!

PurpleDaisies · 23/05/2020 09:39

I’m very proud of how little Sultana has turned out. I’d back him to raise a pizza! I’m feeding him old rye flour (out of date in 2012!!) which he’s loving. Is there a pizza recipe you follow or do you do it by eye and feel again?

I’ve had pitta and houmous for breakfast. I think it’s going to be Greek leftovers all day which is a very nice day for eating.

cricketmum84 · 23/05/2020 10:02

Going full on cliche today and baking banana bread. I've got fresh bananas coming in my veg delivery and still have 4 sad looking ones that need turning into something wonderful!

Weedsnseeds1 · 23/05/2020 12:17

Basically this, Purpke but without the extra yeast
www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/sourdough-pizza-crust-recipe

Weedsnseeds1 · 23/05/2020 12:19

I would say the two yeast based strains get going faster than the pure sourdough one, although they all do the job.
