Worlds first problems... I know.. but I like to try and focus on some positive things to look forward to (keeps me sane!)

Just wondered if anyone has had their holiday cancelled and if so have you rebooked? If so, when for?

I have had our holiday to usa cancelled unfortunately, we will be re booking for 2022 as we already have plans for an anniversary celebration on a Caribbean cruise next march! (Fingers crossed this still goes ahead) we may also book a last minute cheap holiday to Croatia in october 2021- I have seen some fantastic deals, albeit I wouldnt book anything at the moment!

How about you?

Lake Garda holiday booked and paid for in May, rebooked for October. Fingers crossed.
We've also booked for next May.
Inghams have been excellent so far, ringing each customer after cancellation and giving three options, rebook this year, rebook next year with an extra £50 credit per person or total refund with a £25 credit if you rebook with them.
Prices next year are about the same too (at the moment)
They're small and don't really specialise in family holidays though so maybe they're in a better position to do this.

We've decided to hang fire on booking any holidays atm-everything is too uncertain.

We were meant to be away in Europe the week lockdown was announced-hotel refunded completely and have vouchers for travel and are meant to be travelling further afield in a few weeks. Again accommodation have refunded but airline not cancelled the flights yetHmm. Hoping they will cancel then we can get vouchers or a refund.

Whilst we'd prefer a refund for our flights, we'd be happy with vouchers if it helps the airline stay in business.

Holiday in the UK next month and so far its not been cancelled. If it is we wont be able to go for 12 months. DD chose the destination as a treat after her GCSE. Then college in September so we’ll have to wait until next June

Bargainhuntbore · 03/05/2020 08:55

Oh and I had a city break with the girls cancelled so booking that as soon as we can.

Paddingtonthebear · 03/05/2020 08:58

We’ve moved our August Majorca holiday to August 2021

zafferana · 03/05/2020 08:58

No, not re-booking anything yet. We cancelled 12 days in Israel at Easter and a week in Paris in the May half-term. I don't know when/if we'll be able to reschedule, but we're waiting to see what happens, because realistically the whole world needs to be vaccinated before travel and tourism can get up and running again properly and it's not just the UK rules you have to worry about - it's the rules of the destination you're travelling to. It's not much good booking a two-week holiday when the destination has a two-week quarantine in place for anyone coming into the country.

SpillTheTeaa · 03/05/2020 09:09

My mum and dad were meant to be going in June but rebooked first June 2021

SpillTheTeaa · 03/05/2020 09:10

For* not first

Ragwort · 03/05/2020 09:11

No, far too risky to book anything (financially). Our holiday in June has been cancelled by the operator, we can have a full refund after 30 Sept or re-book for later ... I am inclined to take the refund as I think many holidays companies will be going bust.

Not even thinking about holidays at present.

inwood · 03/05/2020 09:17

I think cruises will be the absolute last form of holiday to come back!

I have a U.K. cottage booked in August. Supposed to be going to USA at Christmas but expecting it to be cancelled.

GenderApostate19 · 03/05/2020 09:17

We had a week’s UK holiday booked for May half term and we’ve pushed it back to same time next year - it was a big family holiday to celebrate DD turning 30 - me and DH + DD and her family in a hot tub lodge 🙁
I just hope Hoseasons stay in business, otherwise it’s £2500 written off.

We have easyjet flights and a hotel in Prague booked via expedia in July for my birthday, not expecting to go and it looks like expedia are refunding even for non refundable bookings, so fingers crossed.

SummerintoAutumn · 03/05/2020 09:22

I would be worried about travel insurance not covering you for Covid 19.
My daughter has had to cancel a trip to the USA. Her policy wouldn't have covered her for pandemics (never thought about this before this outbreak) and I can't imagine any new policy will be available that will in the near future.

AnneElliott · 03/05/2020 09:40

We've got a holiday to Canada booked for Aug 2021. Hoping we'll still be able to go.

Luckily nothing booked for this year as we knew next year was going to be expensive.

Dollywilde · 03/05/2020 09:42

realistically the whole world needs to be vaccinated before travel and tourism can get up and running again properly

@zafferana do you think so? Obviously it depends on how a vaccine works but surely you could use a certificate - for example you’d prove you’d had your covid vaccine more than 2 weeks ago. No risk of bringing it into the country you’re travelling to then, and even if you crossed paths with someone who had it when you were away you wouldn’t pick it up or spread it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/05/2020 09:44

No way. I'd rather have the refund sitting in my bank account than in the bank account of a company that might not survive the crisis.

zafferana · 03/05/2020 09:52

@Dollywilde When the incubation period of the virus is 14 days a certificate is meaningless - it just means you don't have symptoms at that point. But travelling through an airport and going on an aeroplane with hundreds of others cooped up breathing the same air for hours is the ideal way to spread this virus. The 'stay at home' rules applied everywhere have stopped the vast majority of us getting the virus - which is great - but it means that hardly anyone has any immunity to it. The minute we all start moving around again we'll see a resurgence. The only way to keep a lid on it is to limit everyone's movements until a decent chunk of the global population (I think 70% is the figure), have either had it or been vaccinated.

Dollywilde · 03/05/2020 10:13

@zafferana but I’m not talking about a certificate saying you don’t have it, I’m talking about a certificate for being vaccinated - like the certs you need for yellow fever when you go to SE Asia. Assuming a vaccination prevents you from carrying it, it doesn’t matter if you’re mixing with carriers, surely?

zafferana · 03/05/2020 10:16

@Dollywilde when we're vaccinated it will be fine. But when will that be? We don't know. And I'm guessing that healthy adults aged 18-50 will be the last in line to be vaccinated, behind very vulnerable, vulnerable, over 70s, children (super-spreaders), then us.

APurpleSquirrel · 03/05/2020 10:19

Had May half-term booked in Cornwall, have moved it to May half-term next year.

Dollywilde · 03/05/2020 10:20

@zafferana ah, we’re talking at cross purposes then Smile I was responding to your comment about the majority of the world needing to be vaccinated before travel could resume.

I agree the majority of the world would need to be vaccinated to stamp it down to a manageable level but, assuming a vaccination in eg December and a vaccination for healthy non vulnerable person in eg April, I could go to Spain in June 2021 and as long as I had my certificate saying I’d had it, it wouldn’t matter how many Spanish people had been vaccinated.

okiedokieme · 03/05/2020 10:42

Thankfully we hadn't booked our holidays yet, the trip to Scotland is still on (if legal but then) as staying with friends, and the tentatively planned cruise may end up being far cheaper, definitely a win!

amusedbush · 03/05/2020 10:46

We were supposed to be going to London for a few days, flying in just over a week (my 30th birthday Hmm).

DH has a couple of weeks off in mid October so we’re hoping to reschedule for then, but I’m starting a PhD in July and all of the induction events for new research students are in October (when the semester officially starts) so I may not be able to go away until next year. DH’s holidays aren’t flexible, his ‘blocks’ of leave for 2020 were set in October 2019.

MrsLindor · 03/05/2020 11:17

Our Easter holiday was cancelled, I've put the refund into a savings account towards a future holiday.

A girls long weekend has been postponed, date to be agreed but will be spring/summer 2021.

Thankfully we didn't have a summer holiday booked because DD has an expensive school trip at October half term, which I'm guessing will be postponed to 2021 or cancelled, if it's cancelled the refund will go into the future holiday fund.

I can't see the point in booking anything now .
