If you had very crowded teeth...

Which type of brace did you use to get them straightened and how much did it cost?

Bonus points if it looked like you’d need an extraction / did need an extraction / needed any other work like whitening or filing.

I had overcrowding on my top row, resulting in very prominent canines. I had a fixed brace fitted and one back tooth extracted. I only had to wear the brace for 7 months and the results have been incredible. I love my smile now, was so worth it. My orthodontist is a miracle worker!

I had braces as a teenager. My teeth never felt ‘crowded’ but I had two out. I don’t now know how or where they fit in there. Probably helped with making room for my wisdom teeth because they never caused me much trouble. I think if you consider your teeth to be crowded an extraction will most likely be needed.

I have an overbite on my top set of teeth and overcrowding of my bottom teeth. I have always hated my teeth and now, at the age of 50, I am determined to get them sorted. Before lockdown I had a couple of appointments at an orthodontist and the proposed treatment included two extractions from the upper jaw and removal of a bridge on the lower jaw to create room. I’m having lingual braces (fixed to the back of the teeth) and will need to have my top front teeth reshaped to avoid gaps at the gum line. Total cost will be around £6,000. I was due to start the treatment this month but obviously will have to wait a little longer...

okaycokay I’m not disagreeing with you per se. And I’m sure you’ve seen some horrors. An orthodontist would do a better job I’m sure but I don't have the money. And 3d scanning, printing and computers have made straightening feasible. It’s that or nothing.

I get what you say about brain surgery but honestly I feel a computer programmed laser would do be just as well as a surgeon at the end of their shift. Beggars and choosers. I just have to assess the risk.

I don’t want the open bite hence the money back. So no correction will be needed either from Smile or from an orthodontist in the rare cases where things don't quite go to plan.

leflic you had better contact them soon because I think you only have 30 days to get your money back. Just in case they blame Covid on delays as well...
they are notoriously difficult to get money back from. Good luck and hope all ok

Thanks. I have no doubt they will drag out giving me a refund!
However if and when I get the money back, I won’t have lost out.

Essentially it’s cost me £1.50 to park to get my 3D scan which was free. I also got a LED whitening kit which was free. There were no extras on the cost of the box of aligners which also includes more whitening gel, lip balms etc.
I’ve had 3 weeks to try it out. In which time I can see if removable aligners work for me and my lifestyle.
And yes I’ve got nice nails through not being able to nibble them.

If I had decided that Invisalign was’t for me I would have lost the non refundable consultation and or fitting fees from an orthodontist which is £100 odd quid at least.

I may look into fixed braces as I found I missed being able to drink whatever I wanted because I couldn’t have the braces out for more than 2 hours in a day.And the days are looong in lockdown...
