Armchair travel - planning a tour of the UK

So bored and dreaming of life after lockdown. Feel that overseas travel will be limited for the foreseeable future and thinking about exploring the UK more but going beyond the obvious. So (hypothetically) if you could plan a tour of the U.K. and Ireland what would be your route? What would be your must sees? Your accommodation? Transport?

Following with interest as I've been saying for years that I'd like to do this. So far I only have the Isles of Scilly on my list!

I'd love to do a tour of remote Scotland, including lots of the islands. Went to Shetland a few years ago and loved how wild and bleak it was. Not sure if I'd like to stay in hotels along the way or take a campervan or similar.

You must visit the Isle of Wight for a lovely seaside holiday!

It would take months to do a full tour, there's so much to see and do.

I'd also love to see the Scillies and the Hebrides/Western Isles - I have a bit of a small island fascination. I've been to Orkney, but was scuba diving so only had a one day tour of the main sites, so even though it appears to be a few bleak and empty islands, I'd probably go back, Maybe spend more time looking at northern Scotland on the way up, rather than just going straight to Orkney.

You could spend a good couple of weeks seeing the sites of Yorkshire. Lovely coast, hills, museums, historical sites, city parks, great food, waterpark, moors, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which is probably the first thing I'm going to do when it opens as I live fairly nearby and go quite a lot, but it's closed, so can't, even though would fit within the 'short drive for exercise' criteria and I know where to park on the edge to walk in, I'm worried that I'd be turned away by security or given a talking to by the police.

Right now I'd be happy to drive to one of my favourite walks in the north York moors, Peak District or Yorkshire Dales and be able to go for a walk followed by a pub lunch.

The Isle of Man is also somewhere that can be a lovely seaside/historical/transport nerdy type holiday, but I've been there a lot.

Definitely campervan with bicycles on board for getting to local pubs, shopsm attractions etc. We’d aim for coast and hills at various points...but it depends on your interests...nature? History? Etc. We’d probably do Suffolk and norfolk coast...Peak district, Yorkshire Dales, North york moors, Cairngorms, Highlands and Islands, and back down the west side of the uk...the Lakes, then across to Ireland...Pembrokeshire.

Soooo many places to see and visit!

Lots of great ideas - stuck indoors has just given me a wanderlust. I like discovering hidden secrets - I love historical places and natural beauty. Not a big fan of overcrowded tackiness. Been to the Scillies and love it. Love Pembrokeshire, Norfolk and North Wales. Haven’t really seen much of Scotland and very tempted by Northumberland..
