How????

We have not been out for seven weeks. Proper sick bug sick. I'm panicking. She had norovirus in January. How is she getting sick at home.

My 10 year old was vomiting at the weekend. It was awful, went on all night. She hadn’t vomiting for years, was so strange.

Then DH a couple of days later, sick and fainting. We’ve been very seriously self isolating for 6 weeks.

On the bright side though, I had an excuse (quarantining DH) to sleep in the guest room with new lovely bed and avoid DHs snoring for a few nights. Bliss.

My toddler had an evening of vomiting when we were well into lockdown. He brought up lunch and tea over a three-hour period. Monitored his temp which was fine. He’d spent a lot of time in the garden that afternoon and a tiny caterpillar mysteriously disappeared Confused during an inspection of it so I put it down to something he’d eaten in the garden. He was fine the next day but limited food to bananas, crackers and toast. The day after that he was happy to eat normally. For hydration I tried diorylyte but he refused it so encouraged lots of sips of water in the days after. If he was younger (he’s an old toddler) I would have kept offering milk so I think you’re doing just fine Smile

You gave your child two bottles of formula after she was sick because she wanted them?

Milk is the worst thing you can give anyone with an upset stomach, and two bottles of formula in one go would be enough to make any child sick.

You have only yourself to blame if she is sick all night. That is harsh but sadly true.

I would stick to water tomorrow if I were you. Water or even diluted fruit juice, but I would steer well clear of milk,

It's fine to give milk.

We haven't been out since the beginning of march and my son did a spectacular sick two days ago. Just the once and then that was it.
Still got no idea why.
It happens.

WorraLiberty · 01/05/2020 00:37

Seven weeks?

Why???

Jesus, I'd be going out of my mind. Are you and your DP on the shielding list?

EYProvider · 01/05/2020 02:01

@Brogley - That NHS article says you should give milk after a day or two when the child is on the mend. No one in their right mind would give two bottles of formula to a toddler who had been sick an hour or so ago. A toddler who had not been sick probably would be after two bottles of formula.

For goodness sake, this is common sense stuff.

What a drama over nothing anyway. Kids are sick all the time, it’s completely normal.

Do people ring 111 for advice when a child vomits now, really? If so, it’s no wonder that the NHS is on its knees.

Jesus Christ @EYProvider I hope that's made you feel good about yourself.

I said I have anxiety, I said I wasn't feeling well, enjoy kicking someone while they are down do you???? Horrible bully.

When she had norovirus she dehydrated. She wanted formula then and the doctor said ANY fluids were fine. I never said I gave her two bottles in one go. I said she was last sick at 2.45. She actually had 4 ounces at 4pm, which stayed down, and another 4 at 8pm, which stayed down. One bottle can be up to nine ounces.

I posted because I'm a new, first time mum and wanted to talk to some parents who know it all. I didn't call NHS 24. I just chatted here.

I have no idea why you want to jump all over someone for asking a simple question, however stupid it may be in your view.

Everyone else thank you so much. I apologise for bothering you. She was absolutely fine all night and is bouncing around now.

Yes @WorraLiberty remote farming family, three households, lambing, two vulnerable so decision taken to close off farm for lockdown, although started a couple of weeks early.

Thanks.

Well done for getting through it OP. Is all back to normal now?

CaryStoppins · 01/05/2020 20:58

OP I have three children and have always let them eat/drink what they asked for when ill. Haven't noticed any correlation between milk and vomitting!

Knittedfairies · 01/05/2020 21:50

I hope she's feeling better now OP. FYI - no parents 'know it all'. Most of us just muddle through, doing our best. As are you.
