Have you ever cut your hair short (pixie style) and regretted it?

I'm so fed up with my hair. It needs constant styling and I can never just wash and go. I've been trying to grow it long for years but the condition is just so bad that I never manage to get it past my armpits. I'm ready to give up.

I want a mega short haircut that I can just quickly shove some product through and go, but am so fearful that I will hate it! Has anyone else gone for the big chop, and how did you react?

(Obviously will get it cut by a proper hairdresser after lockdown is lifted!)

Had it done about 2 years ago. Always had long hair as an adult but a bad one off experience at a cheap hairdressers destroyed my hair and turned it into a haystack. Ended up having a pixie by necessity. Did my research, took loads of pictures and knew exactly what I wanted. Usual hairdresser was normally pretty good, never had a bad cut, but my god never again. It looked okish initially but I struggled to style it afterwards and never felt comfortable with it.
I recently saw a photo taken of me at the time and actually felt quite upset as in my minds eye I didn't think I looked how I did - frumpy and a bit plain (not that I'm mona lisa !). In retrospect my hairdresser didn't cut it confidently enough so it resembled a short back and sides rather than a stylish modern pixie. I've got small features and big eyes but my face is quite long and a bit resting bitchlike at the best of times rather than smiley/ cutsey which I don't think helped. IMO you've got nowhere to hide with a pixie and also need to consider your overall fashion style - alot of the bloggers I followed were quite quirky/feminine but in reality I'm nothing like that !

I've done it twice in my life, about 15 years apart. Loathed it both times. You'd think I'd have learned after the first time!

Actually an earlier poster said it exactly right - you need a stylist accustomed to cutting womens hair short and using up to date styling techniques . If they are half hearted about it that's when it tends to go wrong !

I did and I love it. I have to wash it every day but it’s easy to style. Just a quick blast with the hair dryer and ruffle it up with some texture gum. It’s high maintenance at the hairdressers. Cut and roots done monthly.

I think it must depend on hair type and face shape. My hair was a nightmare to style when it was long, now I just run my fingers through it in the morning.

It takes seconds to wash, and I leave it to dry naturally while I'm doing other things. If I'm feeling really stylish I run some mousse or wax through it. It looks a bit like this (note: pic is not of me I wish but of someone with a similar hairstyle!)

Meant to say, it takes 5-10 mins to dry naturally, not sure about with a hairdryer as I haven't used one since I cut it short.

Never again. But my hair is thick and wavy. I need a bit of length or i look like a loo brush

lakeswimmer · 29/04/2020 22:50

Yes - I've had short hair all my adult life and can't stand long hair. I love a pixie cut (it's currently a short bob) and will have one again at some point. My hair's very thick and takes ages to dry if it's long and I can't be bothered with styling or faffing about with it. I've got a great hairdresser who I've I've been going to for 20 years and have absolute faith in him - he knows my hair really well and what will work for me.

I wasn't that fussed about my hair when I had it cut short, I found it more high maintenance than long hair. Mine is quite thin, but lots of it and poker straight, so really struggled to get any body in it and it would end up just lying flat on my head. I'd love it if I could have hair like 'pinks' photos but it just wouldn't happen.

I did years ago, and hated it.

Started to grow it back the day after.

Years ago (I was about 20), didn’t have a boyfriend for a year 😂😂! It didn’t suit me but it does suit some people, think it mostly suits very petite people although I was less than 8 stone and it still didn’t suit me! Or very petite frame and tall more I think?? I thought I would look like Winona Ryder, I didn’t!!
