Trying to lose weight/exercise and periods

The last year or two, every time I have tried to lose some weight my body seems to get stressed out and I start spotting daily for weeks at a time. I'm not going dieting to extremes, just trying to cut out the snacks and just eat my three meals a day, fairly healthy but not restrictive, usually around 1400 calories (i'm 5ft1).

My body also does the same when I exercise more regularly as well, though I have been running and working out regularly over the last 4+ years. Last year I did RED January (2019), I was running 5k 3 times a week in the months beforehand, I just added a mile run on the extra 4 days so i was running everyday. I spotted for the duration. I went to my GP who said they will only investigate if it happens continuously for 6 mths plus!

Anyway while this has all been going on I just don't seem to lose any weight no matter how hard I try!

For the last 3 weeks I've been doing PE with Joe every day with DD which isn't too challenging as I'm used to harder workouts, then we often do another DVD, Jillian Michaels eg 30 day shred, I have about a dozen so mix it up. I usually go for an hr brisk walk in the evening and have been trying to watch what I eat. I need to lose 1 and a half stone just to get to the top end of a healthy BMI. I've been spotting the whole time and haven't lost any weight at all!

I just don't know what i'm supposed to do to lose any weight, I really don't think i'm being excessive on diet and exercise. I do wonder if the pill has something to do with it. If it something hormonal?? The very rare times I've been to the GP for anything I've felt like i've been fobbed on. Sorry its long, hopefully it makes sense.

How long has it been that you've been eating 1400cals a day?
Coupled with the exercise, I'm struggling to see how you could have lost no weight at all.
I'm guessing from your explanation of how much you need to lose to hit healthy BMI you're about 11 and a bit stone? And this has happened for last few years?
May I ask how old you are? Do you have children?
I am wondering if the possibility of PCOS has occurred to you?
Or, if you've had DC, is it possible you have a prolapse, and this is somehow chafing inside when you run, and causing the spotting?
Either way, it sounds incredibly tiresome to live with, and your GP should not be dismissing it out of hand.
I wonder if you get MNHQ to move this over to the Exercise board there might be more replies or people that have experienced this? Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I'm 35. I've been trying to research if its a thyroid issue or to do with estrogen levels or PCOS?? I need to register at a new Drs but with all thats going on I don't think I'll have much luck at the moment.

Yeah I'm just over 11st. I have 1 child thats 11, I lost 2.5 stone 5 yrs ago, but could never get the last stone off, i kept within 0.5 stone of that weight until now where i've put another 0.5 stone even though i have been desperately trying to maintain it. There have been times where I know i'd been eating well and exercising well and I just watch my weight go up. DH sees how hard I try and doesn't understand it either.

I have been eating 1400 calories a day and exercising a lot more for the last 3 weeks and my weight has remained the same.

It does sound as though there's something underlying. To be fair- when you increase exercise, you increase muscle which is heavier than fat, so sometimes we don't lose weight... but it seems a bit odd, doesn't it?
I asked about DC simply because if you had no children, you might not know that you struggle to conceive, being another pointer to PCOS that's all.
Is it possible that 1400cal is too low for your body at present and that's sending your body into starvation mode and preventing weight loss? What about sticking to 1800, and seeing how that goes for a few weeks? If you're exercising lots, you shouldn't be putting weight on at 1800.
