Long baths, reading - regular occurrence or special occasion?

I’ve read a few threads now where people suggest taking a long bath, taking time out to read to help make a day feel special

I’m just wondering now if these are not normal occurrences in people’s daily lives?

I love a long soak in the bath, I love reading and taking time out to garden or crochet.

I don’t see these as things that should only done for special occasions though, just a normal part of doing things I like to do.

DH will also spend his own downtime either having baths, rafts or reading and I feel we get an equal amount of time to do these things and the other will play with or bake with young DC whilst the other is relaxing.

We’ve managed to do more of this in lockdown as we aren’t visiting friends or family or going to the normal places, and so these moments of quiet seem more valuable.

Do you feel you get your daily quiet and relaxation time or save it for special days only?

Showers are the way to go! Unless you prefer a bath of course!

If you didn’t prefer a bath it wouldn’t be a treat at all Grin

I used to have a copy of Kathy Lettes ‘All Steamed Up’ - a waterproof book, made for the bath.

I have a bath from time to time, it's ok, but it annoys me the way it's held up as some super special treat/hobby for women. No one tells men to have a "nice long bath".

When I was single and childless, I’d have a lovely long bath with a book most evenings after work. Now I hardly ever manage it and I miss it soooo much.

It it annoys me the way it's held up as some super special treat/hobby for women. No one tells men to have a "nice long bath". I have never seen a bath as a female treat. Grew up in a household where males were as likely to have a soak as females.

I'm assuming the comments about if you don't prefer a bath are aimed at me. I just meant that personally I don't understand that attraction of a bath at all, what is it about a bath people like? I can't stand them myself. I simply answered the question, that's all.

I almost never have a bath at home, ours is the wrong shape for comfort and takes ages to fill. As for rest and relaxation, I do have plenty of opportunity, but I miss having time in the house on my own. Even though we have plenty of space for two people, it's just different knowing DP is around.

I love a bath - it’s my daily relaxation for sure. And not just a female treat in this house - DH is just the same. In fact he happily hops into my bath water after me (probably shouldn’t admit that here! Cue comments about stewing in someone else’s filth Blush)

In the winter I do that every night.

Summer/warm weather, nah.

Wineloffa · 28/04/2020 21:11

Since lockdown began, I’ve been having long baths with a book 3/4 times a week. I didn’t used to before but enjoy it so much I intend to keep it up! So relaxing...

Basically never. I have a bath but always take showers. If I got around to redoing my bathroom I'd get the bath taken out and have a big shower space. Even in hotels I never bother with a bath.
